Where did i go wrong (Sirius S10 install)

Well i tried to figure it out and have had no luck.

Here is the problem.

I tried to install my S10 with car dock kit into my 07 mini, using the add a fuse and fuse 21 list on another thread.

Here is how i started. I cut off the cigarette plug and then did not know which wire was positive and which was ground (I am sure this was my first mistake), One wire has a dash white line and the other wire has writing on it.

(thinking the writing wire is the positve) I hooked it up to the add a circuit (fuse 21 using a 10amp on both the 21 and add a fuse ) and the ground to a screw next to the golve box when the glove box is open.

Result the unit starts to charge but the car dock does not come on , it does however get warm. I wire the cig plug back on to test it and it works fine.

Where did i go wrong and what can i do to make it work?

I know its a small step i have to be missing or something i am not thinking of or doing correctly. I am really close to taking it to an installer but i know being this close its just a matter of doing one extra step to get it working.

If needed i can provide pics of everything.

Check the output of the cigarette lighter adapter (should be printed on the side). Many units are not 12V.

I blew up a dock a while ago because there was a resistor and stuff in the cigarette lighter... turns out it was a 5v dock and not a 12v.

This is correct, the unit is 5volts, bypassing the lighter plug that comes with the S10 will blow up the S10, if connected directly to 12 volts DC.

Should i replace the cig lighter adapter and just wire a female adapter from radio shack?

Replace is not the correct word, as i would most likely buy a new one and even have to replace the dock.

Yes, I think that this would be a good idea. If you are mounting the Dock in the center stack cubby, there is room under the heater (behind the center stack) to tuck the cig. lighter adapter.

Glad to hear it. I've noticed that the Sirius lighter plugs are really cheaply made, and the center conductor "button" snaps off easily. You may want to keep an eye on it. On mine, I opened up the adapter, and soldered + & - wires directly to the circuit board.

BTW, on "myradiostore" you can get a hardwire adapter that will work with many satellite head units and therefore you don't have to use a aftermarket cig plug which may cause issues with ground loops, and in my experience, are not very well made.

The Mini Joystick is the remote control lever that is on the gearshift console that controls all of the functions of the Nav/ radio unit for those who have NAV.
