Fogs turn off w/ DRLs on. Help!!

I did a couple searches and I couldn't find anything....

I like being able to turn on my fog lights when just the parking lights are on (no headlights). Today I got my DLR lights programmed, and now I CAN'T use my fogs w/ parking lights on because the DRLs are on and they use the high beams (when high beams are on, fogs disable). Is there anyway to turn off DRLs when the parking lights are on so I can have my fogs on?

I like the DRLs because its safe, but I also like being able to use my fogs when I want. The fogs work better in the fog when the headlights are off (I have Xenons...too bright in fog...), so what am I suppose to do?

When the parking break is on, the DRLs turn off. I was thinking I could somehow run a switch that make it seem like the parking break is on, disabling the DRLs and enabling the fogs when the parking lights are on...

Make sense to ANYONE?!! :impatient

I have an 06 MCC with DRLs enabled, and my car doesn't work that way. With the DRLs on, I can turn on the parking lights and then the fogs. Also, my DRLs do not turn off with the parking brake.

PM TheOfficeMaven or Greatbear...

I can't remember witch. There's a way to drop a line that goes to the fogs so it will always think they can turn on. I think.....

Try Greatbear first.... I think....

They are long time NAM memebers..

Greatbear moderates one of the forums I think. He knows more things electrical on the new mini than most. TheOfficeMaven is a long time member here as well, who's all over the Nav system upgrades and other stuff as well.

I've got an '04 MCS, and I had the DRLs activated on mine too.
Yours seem to work slightly differently than mine. The parking brake does not turn off the DRLs. If I put the headlight switch to the parking light position, I can turn on the foglights.

My DRLs appear to run the high beam bulb at lower voltage, and never turn off unless you have the headlights on, or if you turn the key to the off position. So even in the parking light position, you still get the DRLs. Kind of annoying at times.

RKW - when you have your parking lights on, do your DRLs stay on?

Yes, everything you described for your lights work the same way with mine. DRLs stay on with the parking lights.

My DRLs work the same way. 1/2 power to the high beams, always on except when low beam are on.

As long as my high beams are on (whether it be DRL or full high beam), my fogs turn off.

When I pull my e-brake, the DRLs turn off, so I was wondering if there is a way to find that button, and enable it manually so I can push it when I want my parking lights / fogs on, but DRLs off.

Ha...I figured out a way.

I just pulled up on the e-brake until it clicks once, then my DRLs turn off and my parking and fogs on. Now I can do drive-by's again!!!

Nice that you found a solution. I see from one of your previous posts that you have an '03. MINI must have made some changes in later years. For both me ('06) and AKIndiMini ('04), the parking brake does not turn off the DRLs, and the DRLs do not interfere with the fogs.

When you flash your high beams, do your fogs turn off? Mine do. Im not sure why they'd want to connect the two.

I suppose they figure the function conflicts (fogs for low wide beam light to help with foggy conditions, high beams bright high narrow pattern for distance which is not good in fog..)

On my car, with headlights on, flashing high beams turns off fogs. With just parking lights on, flashing high beams do NOT turn off fogs.

Do you think the e-break engages with 1-2 clicks? I dont want to wear it down.

You can check by jacking the rear tires in the air, spin them w/o the ebrake engaged. Click it 1-2 clicks and spin the wheels again. If there's no change in drag, I'd say you're probably good to go.

My '04 also work this way. There must have been a change in the way DRLs and fogs are activated between your '03 and me & rkw's '04-'06 models...
