If your battery is bad, your battery is bad. You need to get a new one.

That I dont know, I havnt had to go shopping for a battery. Call around you local places, tell them what you drive and that you need the battery. They might be willing to order it and have it there in a few days for you.

you can't play your stereo for 2-3 hrs and not expect the battery to
die. a fresh new battery will not die, but most older ones will.

deep cycle batteries are better suited for such application where you dont
have a charger you can hook up while you play your stereo. deep cycles
can be charged fully after it is drained. regular batteries can not be drained
and be expected to charge fully. it will usually only charge back to about
60-70% (from a very unscientific observation).

Costco carries the Red Top Optima. That's what I put in mine.

Interstate also makes a replacement.

I'll agree with moreorless. The Optima group 25 and 35 both fit. They can be had for less than the a stock battery at the dealer. The nice thing about the Optima is that it's sealed and doesn't need a vent tube. They may also last longer but I won't be able to confirm this for a few more years. Interstate does make a battery that will fit as a direct replacement but you'll have to find the BMW vent tube adapter for it. I tried and failed; the Interstate dealer and his supplier had no clue what a vent tube was. I went to Sears and got an Optima (my local Costco doesn't carry Optima's) and have been happy.

This is what my group 35 looks like...

Did some research on batteries and found this:
1. Autozone Duralast #H5-DLG/47DL

2. Oreilly #700CLA/875CA--$69.95

3. Advanced Auto Parts--Autocraft #471/CCA 590--$69.88

4. AC Delco--ACD48191-60, BCI47CCA0420 and BCI48CCA0420--top post

These might be a financial alternative to the OEM or Optima batteries

well some people dont know that and ends up prematurely killing their
batteries.

even a 2A charge will help prolong the life of the battery while it's being
discharged by the stereo given that the stereo doesn't pull huge amount
of current.

If you plan on playing your stereo for long lengths of time, replace your weak stock battery with an Optima Yellow Top deep cycle battery. Deep cycling will wear out the original MINI battery in no time (I've come to the conclusion that the standby current draw of the car when not being used is enough to cause deep cycling). The Red Top battery will do well for you, but it's life will be shortened if you like to play the stereo for long lengths of time while parked and dont drive enough afterward to give the battery a solid charge.

I have the stock Boost setup, and I killed my original battery a few times listening to the stereo while tinkering with the car, detailing, etc. It got to the point last witner where the battery would die if the car sat unused for a week. I installed a 34-series Yellow Top in the spring and things have been great. The original battery is just not 'big' enough fo these cars. Even using the car normally, there are so many hig-draw electrical items that gang up to overwhelm the alternator and the battery fills in. The power steering pump is the worst of the 'offenders'. Since replacing the battery, I have not had near the droop in voltage in normal driving I used to have (you can see that at night when the headlights dim as you turn the wheel).

Good info. My 02 MCS still has its original battery. I'm guessing I'll have to replace it pretty soon. Especially since I just got it configured for convience opening with my key.

If you find your voltage drooping, I hear it helps if you wiggle your downtube.

I will echo the Allknowing Greatbear (TM E_R), if only because it makes me sound smarter. Oh, pardon me, I think I'm being paged by OT...

ive had my car about 5 yrs now on the original battery and it still
works fine..but the main reason has been because i keep charging it
every 12-14 days when parked longer than a week. the MCS has a
parasitic drain and it does kill the battery if you dont drive/charge it
often.

You should move down this way! Even the bikes don't get put up in the winter. I'm originally from N Iowa, and hard time remembering how bad the winters were!

Yeah-that takes MONTHS to mentally recover from! The kids are damaged for life. Not a roll of TP left in a store anywhere in town!
