R56MINICooper knows a lot about window tinting. I think that was his first mod when he and Lisa first brought WILLIE home. I know he has a trusted vendor too.

Thanks Gary for bringing this to my attention!
Window tinting, illegal in the front, but well worth the risk
35% in the front will give you a decent tint without getting the PoPos staring at you constantly. we did a variation in the rear and went with 15% in the rear and 35% up front.
I don't recommend applying tiny yourself, not unless you have done it many many times before and have everything you need. If you need a good place in the QC area, AutoTrim and Sign on Eastern Ave is the place to go. In Iowa City (if you're ever in the area on a Tuesday) you can take it to AutoToyz they did Willie and they did an excellent job.

Iowa Law from
Iowa Tint Law Enacted: 1983
HOW DARK CAN WINDOW TINT BE IN IOWA?
Darkness of tint is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In Iowa, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through the combination of film and the window.
Windshield Non-reflective tint is allowed along the top of the windshield above the manufacturer's AS-1 line. Front Side Windows Must allow more than 70% of light in. Back Side Windows Any darkness can be used. Rear Window Any darkness can be used.
The actual law is written by a lawyer and is very difficult to read:
321.438 Windshields and windows 1. A person shall not drive a motor vehicle equipped with a windshield, side-wings, or side or rear windows which do not permit clear vision.2. A person shall not operate on the highway a motor vehicle equipped with a front windshield, a side window to the immediate right or left of the driver, or a side-wing forward of and to the left or right of the driver which is excessively dark or reflective so that it is difficult for a person outside the motor vehicle to see into the motor vehicle through the windshield, window, or sidewing. The department shall adopt rules establishing a minimum measurable standard of transparency which shall apply to violations of this subsection.3. Every motor vehicle except a motorcycle, or a vehicle included in the provisions of section 321.383 or section 321.115 shall be equipped with a windshield in accordance with section
Under Iowa Administrative Code 761-450.1(321) safety glazing materials or multiple glazed assemblies thereof intended for use at levels requisite for driving visibility in the motor vehicle shall show regular (parallel) luminous transmittance of not less than 70 percent of the light at normal incidence, both before and after irradiation.
The way I read it is nothing above 70% tint is permissible, but is allowed on the front windows. You can use limo tint on the back windows.

Oh yeah...If you want to drive the cops nuts, just go to your eye doctor and complain of constant headaches. They can write you a script so you can put tint on the whole vehicle. If you are ever pulled over, get out your Doctor's Note and let the police know you have Doctor's permission. It is allowed under Medical Exemptions. You will still have to check what % tint is permissible with a Dr. note, but I guarantee it will be better than what you can put on without it.
*Disclaimer* I am not a lawyer and do not condone you following my directions in order to tint your entire vehicle.

I was looking at the World's 19 most complex & dangerous drive's. 1st (2)pictures taken in Turini, France - 1 gen MINI and Classic Mini blazing the trail and a MINI in the next pic. I was also hoping to find something a litle closer to home. Anyone up for the El Espinazo Del diablo, Mexico? It's rated #18 and its roughly 44 hours away & 2500 miles.

We drove from our house to San Diego (2119 miles) back in March and it only took about 31 hours.
So, 2500 miles should only take about 38 hours or so.......Don't know if I'm up for driving through the mountains again though. We had a rough time in Colorado and New Mexico. Snow hits high elevations hard sometimes. Who would've thought?

MINI as a Canvas
Check out this cool art, much of which is put on "dirty" MINI windows. (Larry, your scribbling on Gozer does not count as art).

Hubby and I celebrated our 27th anniversary last Friday by finding some sweet twistys in Wisconsin. We took no map and no GPS. Just wandered. We found some excellent roads! And saw some beautiful leaves and fun sites. When we decided to find our way home we headed west knowing we would hit the Mississippi eventually We did and we had supper in Winona, MN., which brought back memories of last year's East Meets West event there.
I took a couple pictures (imagine that!) I really wish I could have brought the cute little bulldog home with me!
