Nice! So, really the only real difference is wire diameter and number of coils. A rough calculation based on those numbers gets you this:
The S rear spring is ~11% stiffer than the S-Comfort rear spring.
The SE rear spring is ~25% stiffer than the S rear spring.
The SE rear spring is ~38% stiffer than the S-Comfort rear spring.

Thanks for the calculations!

I might regret not getting the S spring but I figure it is progressive so it might be ok still. If not, I'll spend another $200 and try the S spring.

And just for fun, here are the specs for the SE vs S and S Comfort front springs from KW/ST.

S and S Comfort Front spring
Part # 2048
Wire Size: 13.1 mm
Diameter
Top: 119 mm
Middle: 150 mm
Bottom: 85 mm
Length: 200 mm
Number of coils: 4

SE Front spring
Part # 2041
Wire Size: 11.4 mm
Diameter
Top: 118 mm
Middle: - mm (it doesn't list the middle diameter)
Bottom: 84 mm
Length: 235 mm
Number of coils: 7.2

The extra length of the SE spring was noticeable during assembly. The top hat required compressing the spring to get the top nut on. Unlike other coilovers, these are progressive and it only has a single collar to raise or lower the car. The more you raise the car, the more preload you have on the spring which makes it stiffer since it is progressive.

Assuming the shape of the spring is similar, comparing those two designs, the S / S-Comfort springs are 3x as stiff as the SE springs! I would guess the springs being that much stiffer to help control the weight on the front of the Clubman, and give a much lower ride height.

The front spring sizes I listed are for the F56, not the clubman. But yeah, it is a lot stiffer. But again, it uses the same dampers with the S, S comfort, and the SE.

Those are the same springs H&R developed for the convertible (F57).

I guess H&R figured they didn't need to redesign a spring.

F57 200 ro 300 lbs extra structural weight.
F56 SE 250 lbs heavier due to battery

I installed my S comfort rear spring this weekend. The comfort spring is 5mm longer than what came on the SE.

2061 (top) is the SE rear spring
2050 (bottom) is the S comfort spring

Despite being a little longer, the drop was significantly more. I had to raise the spring perch all of the way up and the car sits a little lower than I would like. I could technically go a little higher but I wanted all of the threads making contact in the perch. If I went higher, not all threads in the collar would be making contact.

So, I went from 25 1/8" in the rear to 24 1/2". To make this match, I lowered the front from 24 13/16" to 24 1/2".

I'm going to drive it like this for a while to see how I like it. It is definitely a little more comfortable but it still a little jittery in the front. It got more jittery in the front when I lowered it to match the rear. I'm beginning to think that the front dampers are too stiff. Or maybe my tires are the real problem. At higher speeds, it is pretty good but at 30-40 mph, it is a little rough on rough roads.

Looks like the comfort spring has a thinner wire diameter, which would make it a softer spring. More weight on a softer spring and it will sit lower.

The S comfort springs are too short for the SE. I maxed out the rear adjustment collar but I didn't like how low the car was. Sadness.

I copies and pasted an email response to my question about lowering a 2023 MINI SE from Caleb at H&R. It seems H&R have officially approved a set of springs for the SE. See his response below. The same set of springs are offered by Turner Motorsports for the F57 convertible. Turner reports that the springs will lower the front and rear by 1.25 inches. There's more I'd like to know but I'm tired of chasing this unicorn so I place and order. Photos and driving observations to follow once they are installed.

Don,

We just approved the listing recently; part number 28813-2 will be the correct part number for the SE model.

Let me know if you need anything else?

Thanks!

Subject: H&R Springs for a 2020-2023 MINI Cooper SE

Good afternoon !

I just bought a 2023 MINI SE... the electric one. I want to lower it and the online research is confusing.

In the attached link there is a part number for H&R springs for the SE on a German H&R site.

I can't confirm that the springs in Turner's catalog

https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-5...priced-as-set/

are the same one's listed on the German website.

https://www.tuningblog.eu/en/categor...prings-377084/

On the Tuning site it appears this set is specific to the SE

The issue is that the batteries in the SE are in the rear (as you probably know !) and it seems MINI has used MINI Clubman springs in the rear for the SE and MINI S springs in the front.

If I change the search to a MINI S it appears that 55847 might be specific to the SE??!!

https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-5...priced-as-set/

Anyhow... Can you confirm which set of springs I should order to lower a 2023 MINI Cooper SE?

Fair winds,

Don Pippins

Thank you for your concern, Tifosi, about maintaining privacy. Always a good idea.

In this instance the email exchange appears to only contain information about the parts in question -- information that others might find useful -- and does not appear to reveal anything of a private nature.

I went ahead and removed email addresses in the post just to protect privacy.

Thanks.
