It's a bypass valve, not a blow-off valve. Sound is similar to stock.

Hello all,
Just a question about the sound. I've been switching through dv's alot recently trying to find one to work well with my setup; the stock and wmw dv were giving me compressor surge. I put the Forge on today, and the lack of noise is concerning me. Is it supposed be pretty much silent, or is it supposed to sound similar to the stock psssssssss? I'm worried it's not actuating properly; I already had to disassemble the unit and relubricate the piston because it was sticking pretty badly. It's making little to no noise under soft shifts; the only time I really hear it is in overboost around 17 psi. I'm running the Green (soft) spring. I greatly appreciate any help and feedback!!!

I just installed mine today and noticed it was sticking a lot when I put my pinky inside to manually actuate the piston. I threw it on without oiling it, but maybe I should've applied some lube. Maybe it's supposed to be sticky? Ill drive it around this week and see how it feels. So far no problems but not noticing much difference in sound/performance.

Forge bov products

Has anyone tried the forge bov adapter rather than the entire new bov? I have a feeling buying the whole bov system is a better call but just want to see if I can save a little money.

Go with the full unit. The adapter plate just vents to atmosphere right outside of the turbo housing, which eventually will trip the Diverter Valve out and throw a CEL.

Buy the whole system. It works extremely well. I installed mine yesterday afternoon and finally got around to driving the car today. The first thing you notice is the reduction in throttle lag. There is less boost lost between shifts. The boost relief is very quick and fairly quiet. I am really glad I got this setup.

Ok I ordered this kit today thinking that the sound and performance comes with the kit, I checked youtube and most of the r56's with the forge BOV makes a nice swoosh sound not the whistle now I see these post saying it doesn't make noise. Can someone clear tis up for me?

We have an alta intake and it sounds like a normal valve to me.

I ran into the same confusion when I was looking into the BOV kits, I saw the videos and thought it sounded great, but it seems like everyone on the forum says its not supposed to make any more noise than normal. If you want the loud turbo wind-up and blow off sound, go with a CAI. I got a used DDMWorks Street Intake Kit for $100 on craigslist and now the wind-up and blow-off are almost as loud as they are on the YouTube videos. The CIA replaces the portion of the stock intake that includes the turbo "muffler," so removing it allows a lot more sound to escape from the turbo bay.

I just put the full AEM kit on last week and thought it would have some extra sound but it sounds 100% stock still, seems like I am working on an altimate sleeper Mini.

Any benefits to the Forge DV on an N18 Mini? I've seen vague references to the idea that the OEM DV on the N18 Mini is better than on the N14 Mini. I'm looking to maximize shift/throttle response, etc.

Open intake system. If you have one, than thats the loudest it will get.

I have an NM Intake with stock DV, which sounds exactly the way my intake sounded with the FORGE DV, no difference. However, I do have the Alta Uprated spring installed in my stock DV, on the account that I lost the stock one. Throttle response and reduced turbo lag was more noticeable. Not sure if mine was a defective DV from Forge, just stating the results. Plus when I shift at around 6000 rpm in WOT the DV makes an amazing sound that neither the Forge, or stock DV made prior to Alta's spring

I have the AEM Cold air Intake too and I've heard people saying theres a fitment issue with the Forge unit - specifically the intake box and boost tap area.

Were you able to get yours to fit without modification?

just installed the yellow spring in and check for piston movement and also checked all the lines again and nothing no noises at all coming out from the new forge dv... only can hear a rattle/tapping noise coming out from it... any ideas of whats can be happening?maybe defective?
it did make that woosh noise once on the first rev up and after that just tapping/rattle noise coming from the unit :(

Ok so two things could be happening;
1st check the connector that came with the kit and insure you heard a click when attaching to the OEM harness. If no click it's time to shave the Forge tab a bit, so that the OEM harness can snap into place. A bad connection will not allow the DME to communicate with the solenoid. Remember this is an electronic DV on our veh. The FORGE DV, is mechanical but still allows the DME to think its communicating.

2nd will be to insure the piston has ample grease, and is allowed to open when off the throttle. When I hooked mine up it was all functioning off the vacuum line. So insure you have no leaks either.

If you continue to drive it with bad connection or leak, your DME will go into Limp Mode.

Oh, and not sure what you heard with stock air box, but remember it will not be any louder with the Forge unit. Just an improved function you will feel when shifting while under boost.

The useless "whoosh" sound someone was after comes from diverter valves that vent to atmosphere. The forge unit recirculates the charge back to the intake just like the stock DV. Forge sells an adapter that vents to atmosphere if someone wants the Whoosh noise but it could cause a CEL. I found the forge DV unit unreliable. I'm currently using the GFB unit and it has been very reliable.

vacuum tap?

When I got my 2010 cooper s, I immediately installed a boost gauge from AutoMeter. I absolutely love this gauge. But in order to correctly install it I needed the forge boost port adapter. That only has 1 tap though.

I am looking into getting this BOV bit no longer have anywhere to tap.

Ate there any other options for this? Maybe a boost port adapter with multiple taps?

Just put a vacuum T on the hose for the boost gauge.

Vacumm line

Where would the vacuum line be located on the newer mini cooper models (n18)? I want to make sure I can find where the Bov recirculates back to before purchasing. Would a boost port be needed, or could I just use the vacumm T fitting?

The boost recirculates in the turbo housing just like the stock one.

The vacuum line you T into on the N18 to make the valve activate. No boost tap on the N18.

My question is, where is the vacumm line located in the engine where you T? I know all about how it works, I just dont know which part specifically is the location where the T is fitted. I cant find the vacumm line you tap into. Let me know!! Thanks
