Magnaflow Catalytic Converter pt no.94136 - is this the right one?

Hi all,

I have been reading through a load of threads on here this morning regarding what aftermarket CATs will fit our cars, and I believe I have found the right one.

http://www.bestsourceparts.com/shop/...ategory_id=336

This is the Magnaflow cat which has a 2.5" inlet and outlet and has the single 02 sensor - all of which sounds right for our Mini's.

Now,
I am currently running the Janspeed manifold (de-cat) and Milltek cat-back, can you anyone with any previous experience confirm whether the above CAT will fit my exhaust equipment. It will literally be connected to the car for 2 minutes during my upcoming MOT test for which I will need the CAT in place, after the MOT it will be removed and the de-cat pipe re-installed. So exact fitment really isnt an issue, I just want something cheap and that will hold in place for a very short amount of time and get me through my MOT test. Then the cat will be placed back in my cupbaord till I need another MOT at the same time next year.

Dont know if it makes any difference, but Im based in UK.

Of course, I could just purchase the Janspeed CAT, but that is extremely expensive at £325 (around $650) for JUST the CAT!!!! and thats the best price I have been quoted, many were more than that!!:impatient
So I have looked to Magnaflow because they seem to be cheapest and ideal for the job in hand.

I would really appreciate any help.
Thank you for your time

Nick

I am using a Magnaflow 91036

Nick, Have a look at my Gallery or try the link below.
Adapting a CAT to your Janspeed manifold (de-cat) and Milltek cat-back is going to require some fabrication in getting the length right and adding flanges with whatever you go with.
For my OBX to Magnaflow CAT back the flange to flange length of the CAT is 13.5 inches.

Hope that helps

Thank you for the reply, I had a look in your gallery and I see what you mean. I am guessing that the OBX header and the Janspeed will be the same length, although I will measure tonight.
When you found out that it was 13.5 inches, how did you find out which Magnaflow cat would be right for the gap?

Maybe a silly question but how did you go about modyfying it to fit the flanges etc because the cat just has tube endings (round) whereas the cat back and manifold have diamond shaped flanges.
For MOT purposes, I might actually not need to modify it so it would fit properly with flanges etc, Im thinking I might just be able to secure it in place for 30seconds or so while they do the emissions check by clamping the pipes together or maybe even holding it in place (with gloves on!)

Thanks for the reply. I will look into how long the gap is this evening

*one other quick thing, do you know what CPI your cat is??*

thanks

People ask all the time which is the right CAT and I have yet to understand which is the right CAT. You go to the catalogs and they all offer FREE'er FLOWING CATS referenced to stock. Yet are they FREE'er FLOWING enough?

Assuming you have level 1 mods (CAI/pulley/exhaust) how much more flow do you really need?

in my case, i purchased the OBX header and dont feel like welding it to the stock cat. this leaves me with the buy an aftermarket cat option.

While I ended up grafting the stock CAT - its not clear to me which is the appropriate CAT to purchase. Go to any catalog and they offer "free'er flow" over stock BUT how much flow more is appropriate. If the objective is to purchase a CAT that does not restrict the flow of a header / exhaust system, I just haven't seen a way to calculate. I've seen people that the position "well this is for a v-6 so it must flow enough for a MINI."

Something I always wondered about.
