Crank pulley install????

Does anybody know where I can can get a crankpulley installed in Santa Barbara, Santa Maria, SLO, basically anywhere in Santa Barbara county or southern San Luis Obispo county????

I know that Central Coast Coopers is here... but they are pretty far south and I heard that Scott moved his shop even futher south. Anyway, Scott does not believe in crank pullies and probably would not install it anyway...

I have a new 3% sitting in my garage and need it installed!!!

I originally wanted to do the install myself... But finding the tools is a bit*h!

Quikmini... Pberry.... any locals here know the spot????

Thanks, Jasun

No idea, but based on the stuff i've seen with crank pulley's I wouldn't install one either, Scott is smart to not like them .

I gave you an honest opinion, sorry if it wasn't the one you were looking for... after seeing crank pulley's spin off the engine and catapult across the engine bay causing thousands in damage, I wouldn't dare install one.

To answer your question for the second time, I'm not aware of anyone out near your area that installs crank pulley's. Steve from Steve's Auto Clinic or Danny from MiniCorsa would probably do it, they're in the valley though, you specifically asked for a shop near you .

The lack of a harmonic balancer makes the downsides outweigh the minimal benefit in my opinion. Heard too many bad things!

"Honest opinon?".. "Sorry if it was not what I was looking for?..."

I asked if anyone knew if there was a shop in my area that might be able to do the install.

I did not ask if anybody thought it was a good idea or not...

Believe me... I have been kicking the idea around of installing one since I have owned my MINI...About a year and a half..

I am well aware of the risks associated with having one on my car, and why SOME people think it is not a good idea... A good install is key with this mod...

I feel it is worth a shot and might be fun.

I have also read a ton, and talked to many people, like bomboasy for one (who is a genius by the way). Roland from GTT says it is the first mod he would do to a JCW car, and has had ZERO problems from any of the hundreds of cars he has installed them on..

A 3% crank pulley on a JCW car is supposed to be a kick in the as* from what I have heard. The extra boost and lightened weight is said to make the car quicker for sure..

I do not know if it is a long term mod or a weekend blast. But it is worth a try in my mind..

So... If anybody does know of a good shop for this type of mod in my area, the heads up would be appreciated.

Thanks, Jasun

The Tritec engine is internally balanced, harmonic balancing isn't an issue in this case as it is with many other engines. The issue lies in design faults on most of the aftermarket pulley's, and there has been more than one case of the pulley flying off the hub while driving.

The 05-06 Pulley is lightened from the factory, that'd be a good place to start if I was looking for throttle response.

You could probably accomplish the same thing (Looks like you're trying to up the boost a bit) by installing a 19% pulley, and you'd probably have less issues in the long run.

Sorry if I stepped out of bounds in my previous posts, just offering my opinion.

As I said, not aware of any shops in your area besides Central Coast Coopers. If you're willing to drive a bit, Danny at MiniCorsa does awesome work, and can have you in and out in 2-3 hours. He's VERY good at that, and you're not going to be there any longer than it takes for him to install it. I'm sure someone else will chime in with info. In the mean time, free bump .
