A plug...and reminder about plugs

If you have put some significant mileage on your spark plugs, here is a reminder to check the torque on those puppies, as I can witness that they DO get loosened up some in just plain driving around!!

This is also a "plug" for FBT.

I went by their shop today 'cause I experienced a limp-home start on Tuesday evening when leaving work to go home . I went back into my workplace and called FBT. Brian answered and I told him what I experienced. He patiently worked me through steps to :
> try startup again
> perform a reset of the adaptive software thingy if that didn't work:impatient
> some suggested reasons why it might have started up that way.

I went back to my car and tried it again, and it fired right up without the "EML" and DSC lights on this time , and I was able to rev normally, but the SES light was still glowing . BUT, that was okay, since I was able to get home with no further problems, I just took it very easy.

The next day (Wednesday) the SES light was out and everything seemed to be back to normal. But I still kept glancing at the instruments just waiting for something to go wacky.

So Thursday, I'm at work, thinking about calling Brian to let him know how it all came out. Before I do HE CALLS ME!! to ask how everything came out. I tell him the good news and he says "bring the car in for us to check out the codes so we don't miss anything." I was blown away.

So I get 'round to taking it in this (Friday) afternoon (better late than never) and he's there. So he checks the OBDII codes and does the reset process a couple of times to do it and to show me how-to. Also there was Dr. Fuh, who I got to meet . So we are kind of just shooting the s___ for a few minutes, so I happen to mention that I had been thinking about looking at the plugs since my tune with FBT just to see how they look as far as AFR (fouling? too lean? etc.). Anyway Fuh says "hmmm" and goes in to get the plug socket so's he can take a look (the plugs have about 40,000 on them).

They pull all four plugs and inspect them (Dr. Fuh used a jeweler's loop to perform the look-see, no less.) and put them back (they looked really good: not too rich and not too lean but JUST RIGHT) and used a whiz-bang torque wrench to remove the last three and to replace all four.

Turned out that all four were slightly loose, but one of them was way loose , so it was a really good thing that they got checked. BTW, they suggested torque the plugs to 24 for street and 25 for race, rather than the 20 in the manual.

They charged zero for all of that.

BTW, the code was a fluke, apparently, and the car is running GREAT!!

These are great guys, who really know what the h___they are doing, and really value their customers. I'm definitely going to get my cylinder head there.
