Ok, I thought I would ask what brand and weight oil others are using in their MCS. I know the factory says 5-30, but with summer coming on, is everyone staying with that weight?

I just changed to 10-30 Royal Purple. I have always used Mobil 1, but thought I would try RP. I am more comfortable with 10 for the low end in summer, but am also used t running 15-50 in a Porsche, so I am a bit freaked out at using 30 for the high end.

If you do a search, I'm sure there are at least 20 obligatory oil threads...

To clear up a common misconception the W ( as in 10W30) means WINTER not weight. The lower the number on the left, the easier flow you will have in the winter.

In my service & warranty booklet, Mobil 1 is specifically recommended by name (as is the MINI-branded oil you get from the dealer). Grades 5W-30 or 5W-40 are also recommended.

10W-30 should be fine for the summer months though I don't think I'd use it for winter.

FWIW, I am using Mobil1 5W30 with an OEM MINI filter, changed every 5k miles.

Chalk up another for the Amsoil 0-w30 full synth. Best synth going esp. for MINI
