I contacted Powerchip and the ECU update costs $490

Here is the information.

There is a core deposit for the serial kit
(the equipment that allows you to connect your laptop to your mini)
of $500. This is fully refundable when you return the equipment.

Should the dealer reflash your car, all you would need to do is contact us
all we would ask at that point is that you pay for shipping and handling,

The cost of the Powerchip for your mini is $490 (+ shipping and handling)

Trippy, so then $500 deposit is what erroneously boosted the price up to $995 (as posted in a previous thread discussing ECU mods?

Has anyone done comparisons on the available ECU mods? This sounds like a great deal, but how does it compare to the other options?

"Powerchip’s risk-free satisfaction guarantee gives you total peace of mind.

Every Powerchip performance software upgrade sold to customers residing in North America comes with an unconditional 14-day money back guarantee. This is for two important reasons:

1) Your car needs time. The engine’s control unit in modern cars needs time to readjust to a performance software upgrade. It also needs to re-learn your particular driving style.

2) You need time. Powerchip enhance many different driving scenarios (far more than simple foot to the floor acceleration), meaning you need time to notice and appreciate the nuances. In fact, it’s been said that the better driver you are, the more you appreciate the new modifications.

This 14-day grace period ensures that your expectations are met. If for any reason you are unsatisfied, you may return it to your place of purchase for a cheerful refund (not including shipping and handling). "

Love it!!
Let the competition begin.
The only way to drop the prices of the other offerings, don't believe that stuff about market size and production runs. If the guy across the street is selling for less, you had better drop your price or find another business.
Anyone on here use this product yet?

This sounds nice but I think this is a "generic" type of ECU for the MINI......no? I think the one Randy and Perfpower has is geared towards the specific mods in your car especially the pulley upgrade. Don't know for sure but this is just my 2cents worth.

Several weeks ago I contacted the people at Powerchip after reading the information and price on their website. After filling out all the information forms for my car, they emailed me back and indicated the price would be $990, not the $490 advertised on the site. This was not presented as a refundable deposit, but rather the actual price. They indicated the program was tailored for my particular car's mods.
I'm planning to do the program Randy has.

I've heard from auto technicians that it can take up to a month for a modern car's ECU to adjust to new conditions. Is this true with the MCS?

That could be just an oversifht on the part of the email sender.

I just recieved the EMail I posted above that uncategorically states that it is a core charge for the
equipment, and it is refinded when they get their stuff back.

>>They indicated the program was tailored for my particular car's mods.

That's even better!!!

If you read the site, and I've also been told, this is NOT a generic chip, you tell them what mods you have done to the car and they create the progreamming for you. This really sounds good. We need to get into real talking with these guys to figure out a better way of getting it to our cars. Rather than "borrowing" their laptop for a $500 deposit, if they could sell us the cable, and the software, we could use it on our laptops. they could e-mail us the program and have us install it. This is all just coming out of my ***, but it sounds very plausible, no. Lets all discuss this...

Thats a great idea Chris. It may take them a while to develop that system.

So this sounds like everything we have been looking for. Who is going to be the first one to order???

I was quoted $490 for the MC. Dyno charts show +13hp and 11 lb/ft of torque. The charts looked good, power adds across the board. Has anyone tried it yet?

I was told by Powercip that the cost was $990 retail - no mention of the refundable deposit. I apologize if I gave information that was incorrect. My guess is that after some testing data came out, the realized power wasn't there, so they dropped the cost - just a hypothesis.

I would be happy to test yet another software program, but the folks at another BIG MINI product supplier have tested this programming - they were planning on being the dealer for it - and found the numbers lacking.

To be fair, I need to do the testing myself. The only reason I shyed away from it was all the flak I took over the $700+ ECU stuff, and having been told it was $990, there was no way I was going to try to bring that to the market.

Thanks trippy, I'll contact them AGAIN on Monday.

Randy

PS - I am still VERY happy with the EVOTech, and what it provides, for the money. I am continuing to test other products, but will continue to offer this, for now exclusively. I totally stand behind it and the claims made about it.

Just to clear it up, I think I may have found the confusing point trippy. Again thank you for following up on it - it always helps to have more sets of eyes and ears on the market to find great new stuff!

The Powerchip package for the MINI Cooper S with no pulley is $490. The upgrade with the 15% reduction pulley is $990. That is what ist says in my e-mail, so I think you may need to clarify your question to Powertrip, I mean chip, and see if they come back with a different price for the pulley.

I will still be in contact with them on Monday to be sure.

Randy

The $990 includes a new 15% reduction pulley and the chip, according to the Powerchip rep I talked to.

Sounds like its time for a hack. When someone gets the adapter, crack it open, send me the pinouts and Ill make a butt load and send them to you all.

Also see if you can get the binaries from the laptop...It could be free...if you really want.

Just kidding, or am I?

Frank

Probably just a standard serial/OBD II interface.

>>Probably just a standard serial/OBD II interface.

Yes, but do they use the K and L lines or the CAN bus.

They are both populated in the MINI Cooper connector.

I can certainly capture the traffic during an upload if I
know which ones to look at.

I'd like to get a hold of that serial interface, build my own copy and then I could re-flash any time I need to. Is that possible?
