DIY One-ball?

I'm thinking of doing the one-ball mod on my 06 MCS. I'm planning on getting the MyMiniParts resonator eliminator. It seems like an easy mod, all I think I need would be a reciprocating saw.

If anyone has done this mod and has some tips I would appreciate it.

A muffler shop changed my exhaust to a one-ball for $75.00. You may want to check out a local shop.

While many have had a local shop make the 1-ball piece, I opted to buy the MyMini piece because

a) it fit perfectly, mandrel bent and came SS hardware. I then had a local shop install for 30 bucks.
b) if I wanted to up grade to a Catback, I new I could sell the piece. I did end up going to a full Catback and sold the piece in the marketplace in 5 minutes as I offered it for 65 bucks.

Installation - you just need to a) get under the car to work - a lift makes it very easy and b) cut tool. Measure twice - cut once. The SS hardware that comes w/ MyMini is the best (can be bought at a local boat store) for it keeps the pipes round if you every need to change it up or adjust.

hope this helps

Why is the myminiparts so much money when people have said a local shop can do it for $70-$80? I guess this is a good option if you do not want welds. I will probably get this part in the very near future.

I agree with bahamabart, was my thinking also. Any muffler shop could have done it, but it wouldn't have been SS and half of them wouldn't have done mandrel either.

As far as making the cuts, a friend and I used one of these chain-type things, and it went quite smoothly. Were able to cut it off with the exhaust still completely hooked up. It's tight under there, might not be able to get a saw in comfortably.

Find at any autoparts store, $10-20 bucks.

Because it's a specially designed bit of pipe and they can afford to charge a premium for the fit + finish, stainless steel, mandrel bend and inc. hardware.

There were no shops around me that could do this with stainless steel, and I didn't want a small section of the exhaust rusting out. For the amount of $$ & time I'd spend driving somewhere to have it done, I figured ordering the part and DIY'ing in my driveway was the better option.

They sell because they can!

FWIW, the muffler shop I used charged $90, and made a nice compound curve out of muffler and exhaust scrap lying around. It took longer, and is welded in place.....

But if you live near to a Mini shop, stock cat-backs are pretty easy to come by.....

$90 v $125 it is not that big of a difference in the long run. Does the myminiparts come with the measurements already in the instructions or do we have to eyeball it?

Redskunk thanks for posts the info on the pipe cuting tool.

basically you are goping to hold it up to the stock exhaust and mark the ends then when you cut you need to leave 1-2 inches extra of the remaining pipe at both ends to the part slides over and can be clamped.

1) the SS clamps alone are 8-10 bucks each.
2) Its not just curved one way but two bends. It is jigged/mandrel bent to fit perfectly that is not to say a local shop cannot produce a "like" piece.

It is a few more bucks but it is "designed" to fit and not rattle and the clamps give you some adjustability w/out damaging the tubing.
