Need advise on how to replace an air filter

Howdy,

I would appreciate it if someone could offer advise on how to replace the air filter on a 2005 Cooper S with the works air induction box. I have purchased a K&N filter to replace the OEM element. I have removed the clip on the intake hose, removed the two star studs toward the front of the box and unclipped the positive battery contact. It's reluctant to come apart. Are there additional clips or studs that need to be removed.

2005 Cooper S, (LOM) lots of mods

I believe that you need to push the top portion of the box slightly inward (toward the rear of the auto) then it should lift up and out (there are a couple of tabs in the cover that engage by pulling toward you, hence pushing rearward to disengage). Been a while since I last removed mine.

look HERE (just the first part, the JCW top portion removal is the same as the regular) if you want a step by step.

More info on replacement of the air filter

Howdy,

I just had quite a suprise. When I went to remove the paper element I found that it was not the same shape as the stock 2005 cooper S element. The element in the "works" air induction box is cone shaped, directly attached to the intake fitting and lays in the air box.

Does anyone know what would be the proper K&N filter for this application ? I've E-mailed K&N. Looks like I have a $50 K&N element that I can't use.

2005 Cooper S (ALDE) alot of LuckyDog enhancements.
