Comment needed..This boost amt correct?? (CAUTION : VERY Long with DYNO graphs!!)
Hi all,
Finally managed to install my port and polish enlarge exhaust cylinder head from MiniSpeed in UK, bought from a fellow former..
Just a bit of spec detail on the cylinder head, the intake valve is stock size and the exhaust valve has been enlarged another 2.3mm over stock.
My local workshop have mirrored polished all exhaust ports (if that is what you call them) , and smoothen the intake ports with inwards swirling lines pattern, according to my local mechanic, it should have better results for intake port.
Double springs from Pilo have been fitted to the valve stems, new shims, new valve seals and stock retainers were used.
Shrick cams for MCS with 264/272 profile was fitted too. All bolted on together with ARP head bolts and stock 0.95mm head gasket.
I fitted a few other performance items together with the cylinder head.
By the way here comes the story, hope to be as detail as I can..
the below dyno graph was about 7 mths back where the I have the following performances mods in my 2004 April production mini:
1)GRS intercooler with GTT boots
2)M7 60mm enlarge throttle body version 2
3)M7 180 deg F thermostat
4)Detroit By pass valve
5)Screaming demon coil pack
6)IK22 denso iridium spark plugs
7)Live wire plug wires
8)Alta 15% reduction supercharger pulley
9)GTT Twin bearing idler Pulley
10)GTT Tensioner Pulley
11)GTT Tensioner Limit Stop
12)Alta Oil Catch Can

7 months after, I did the additional following mods in bold:

4)Detroit By pass valve
5)Screaming demon coil pack

HP at crank/flywheel:

(1PS= 0.986HP)
Green line is performance after dyno tuned (Peak=287.5 PS @ 7000rpm)
Wheel HP:

(1PS= 0.986HP)
Green line is performance after dyno tuned (Peak=221.2PS @ 7000rpm)
Boost and Airfuel ratio Graph:

(1 Bar = 14.5 PSI)
Blue line is performance after dyno tuned (1.05 bar @ 5500 rpm)
Just a bit more details regarding my dyno,
the dyno machine is called Dynapack, car is dynoed by taking out the front wheels and each side 's wheel hubs are fitted on to the dyno machine runner.
The ambient temp during the above 2 dynos sessions shown on the dyno computer was about 34 to 34.4 deg C / 93.2-93.92 Fahd.
Questions:
1)Why my boost increased only by 0.04 bar despite the addition of a 17% reduction super charger pulley vs. the 15% which I had.
Since I have changed to 06 crank pulley, was the 06 crank pulley smaller than my previous 04 stock crank pulley? I only know that the 06 crank pulley is lighter vs. 04 crank pulley.
2)I have measured the Alta 17% reduction version 2 super charger pulley and it is only about 1mm smaller than the Alta 15% reduction supercharger pulley, anyone out there know if this is right size?
3)From my air fuel ratio graph, was my car well tuned?
Any comments, positive or negative are welcome..just discuss...
4)What future bolt on mods I could go for to increase more power than what I have currently? Excluding Twin charge/Turbo charge, even smaller supercharger pulley or larger/lighten crank pulley.
Thank you to all for your inputs and time to comment on the above..
Cheers

Why did boost remain about the same after changing to a 17% pulley?
- Your smaller pulley is causing your s/c'er to pump more air -- don't think of it as "more boost" (Think "more air".)
- You have reduced inefficiencies and restrictions in your intake and exhaust path (new head).
- The air isn't piling up behind the intake and exhaust valves like it used to.
This is a good thing! You have increased the flow of air through your engine, without increasing pressure. When you create pressure (boost) you create heat, and we all know heat is the enemy of a high performance engine.
Think of a 1/2 dia garden hose with the water turned on full. The stream shoots out several feet because there is lots of pressure behind all that water. You get 10 gallons of water per min.
Now change to a 1 inch garden hose, the stream just sorta archs out a foot or so, pressure seems less. BUT, you get 20 gallons of water per min.
More air in the intake charge = more fuel = bigger bang = more hp & tq.
As you continue to mod your engine it becomes harder and more expensive to extract more power.
You stared this with a respectable list of mods, and were able to increase your performance by about 24%. That's outstanding in my book. Well done.
