Pulley 17% or 19%

Which Pulley do I have to go for ???
I own JCW 03, Is it worthy to do it ??

If I installed one of thies pullies, dose it make a big diffrenece ? and do i have to order shorter belt too ?

Not really the JCW is already at almost 15% so its not really worth doing.

Dude stay with your JCW pulley... There are more and more recent issues with too many people running more than 15%. You'll notice alot of people are going back to 15% that had smaller ones. At least wait a little while.... There is something in the air right now....

stick with the jcw pulley... it isn't worth the swap... and 15% cars seem to be the ones making all the power

Oh no.... Not the crank pulley..... I have wanted to do one of these as well for a long time. I have been patient and watched the outcome of other poeple that have done it.... IT IS NOT WORTH IT. IMHO of course.... For what maybe 2 hp. There is too much to worry about.

The more I find out about highly modded cars.... the more I appreciate my JCW. The cars work sooo well. They may not make the most peak power on a dyno or boost levels on the gauge or whatever... But they work very well. Smooth, powerful, torqey and all right from the factory!!! I can tell you in a real world situation with a bunch of buddies in the back roads, a JCW car will perform as well as any other MINI .... and it will get you home....

There are a couple little tweaks I am finding that seem to be worth it power wise and do not disrupt the JCW harmony....

If you have not done the BPV, do it! Really light wheels, Alta intake, Alta airdiverter with sprayer, engine dampener. The stock intercooler actually works very well. For me living in cool Cali...its all my MINI needs. Just put a nice diverter and scoop on it... pleanty.

After an aggressive couple hours of motoring today my friend popped the hood on my car and put his hands on the i/c horns.... The horn on the drivers side was cold to the touch, while the other portions of the motor are very hot to the touch. My friend who has a brand new DFIC on his car, put his hand back on the horn and said "I have never felt one be this cold" This is stock with a good diverter, sprayer, scoop. Thats all you need.....

Now if we were in Arizona in august..... Thats a different story!

For gains earlier in the power band the 19% pulley is a bargain; yes, a shorter belt is needed with this one and the belt should be replaced more often as a preventative measure. If you intend on spending a lot of time close to redline I would avoid changing the pulley to the 19%, but for the street it’s safe.

Im somewhat in the same boat here. Bone stock 05 mini.
I do not want a 15% or the 15% + crank 2%....(pass)
My gutt says, do the 19% pully and just drive it like ya stold it.
Basicly my 98% street driving and some freeway commuming.
I DONT autoX it or redline the **** out of it, on the streets.

So 17 or 19 sounds about right uless im missing something?
Anybeta tester feed back form a 19 or 17 guy please chime in.

A have recently read bad reports on the 2% crank pullys.
So no need to test how hot them waters are.

My plan is 19% pully, CAI, One Ball Ehaust....

You risk cavitation of the water pump with pulleys smaller than 15% and possible excessive drive belt wear.

Regarding the water pump cavitation....Ummm.... yeah... and if you're really worried about belt wear, switch out the belt...

Yeah, I don't recall seeing anything. If anything happens to my engine, I'll tell you. Especially since if it does, I'll be moving on to much larger things, probably a fully built engine...

Great, is everyone going to start bagging on the 19% again? I have 10,000 miles on my 19% with zero issues. But with a JCW, I'd leave it alone.

Seriously, I've had my 19% with no ecu tuning or injectors for over a year now, that's about 11,000-12,000 miles worth with zero issues. Oh and I live in Miami, temps went up past 100 in the summer.

However, on a JCW I'd leave the stocker, not worth it IMO. And crank pulley, if your car is new. Leave the stock on there as well. IMO, I'd leave the JCW components stock unless going for truly better things.

I switched from a 15 to a 19% pulley and there is deffinatly a gain to be had. I always wanted a little bit more down low and the 19 filled that hole. my car is only a few mods from happiness.

so now my question.. if you are up in the redline area alot.. but you want more power than the 15% would it be better to go with the 17%

or the 15% and the crank pully?? and does the 17 need a new belt?

17% will need a slightly smaller belt (do a search, there's a thread with a table of the belt sizes for different pulley combinations).

I can't comment on 17 vs. 15/2, can anybody help him out?

I have an 04 Mini Cooper S with the JCW kit. I added the 19% pulley, GIAC, 380cc injectors, Alta cold air intake, WEBB exhaust, Detroit tuned BPV and must say it is a big difference than it was with just the JCW components. If you are looking for that extra happiness when pressing the gas pedal, I say go ahead and do it. I have had this set up for over a year now and no problems. Good luck
