Clover (UKDragon) and I installed a K&N cold air intake
on her MCS (with 15% pulley installed).

Now it's all installed, I can't see where it's getting the
cold air from? See below:

1. With the hood closed it looks like is make a perfect box where it might be difficult to pull air in.
2. What is this hole for in the front of the MINI? I originally thought that's how it got it's air but now I don't know because there doesn't look like a tube feeds that box.

I heard that 'removing a wall' would greatly increase the
flow of air to the CAI.


*note to self: after this question answered ask the 'boost

Your intake is fed with that tube. It goes to into the bottom of the airbox. And yes, if you cut out the back wall of the airbox, the driver side cowl vent will feed it also. It makes quite a difference in airflow, especially when moving, but it is significantly louder in whine. (Love it though!)

 

The hole up front does feed air to the intake. Follow the tube that it connects to and it should wind down into the box down there. That's its OEM purpose atleast (aftermarket intakes may not use it)

The wall you mention removing is the one that you would consider the "back wall" nearest the driver. Many people drill large holes into it in hopes of letting air in through the cowl vents and then through the holes and into the intake.

 

The K&N I have came with another tube that takes air from your "What Goes Here" arrow in the front of your bay. It is believed that very little air actually comes from this direction. Most of it comes from your cowl. If you look, there should be a little hole towards the narrow part of you air filter and another little hole below the wide part of your air filter...this is exists on my car...may not on yours... The first one takes cold air in from the cowl scoops/grills on the upper part of your hood and the latter hole takes nice hot air right from your engine bay...plug that hole if you have it. Take a look at this mod...there is no real need to pay for it as you can do it yourself with an exacto knife or whatnot...be careful because your brake lines are right behind the panel with the large hole in it...look here:

I'm going to try to talk to UKDragon about drilling/cutting more holes in her
MINI. I get the feeling she doesn't like it when i drill/cut holes.

So I was going to ask about adding a boost gauge to the MCS but looks like
there is a popular thread that has just about everything i needed to know
about it!

Correct me if i'm wrong, this is an email I sent to UKDragon (AKA Clover) to
see if she's up for the boost gauge:

Clover, A Boost gauge is just as much fun to watch as it is to listen to the
whine of your engine! I'm betting installing this will further increase your
already wide smile when accelerating!

This one looks good in the MINI and has lots of support on the forums.

Your cold air intake will have much more air if you remove the wall behind it!
