Is the middle setting on the Alta shortshifters best or the shortest throw?

Ive just got a Alta short shifter and will get it fitted next week. But i wounderd out of the three settings which feels best and the smoothest.I like the sound of a real short throw but dont want a real notchy feeling. So i wounderd how short the middle setting is.and wether it feels as smooth but not as short as the shortest setting

Their are some people that say the shortest throw on the alta, makes the shifter feel rubbery and unresponsive. Due in particular to the angle and stress induced on the cables. Somewhere close to 20% shift reduction should give you that nice shifting feel your looking for.

I have mine set on shortest and its tight and finding the gears is not hard, the only problem I see are that I had a hard time installing it and its often hard to get it in reverse, dont know if thats my tranny or the shifter
