Advice on new head

Starting to think about bolting on a new head --- any advice on which one to start looking into? What do you have and how do you like it? What kind of increase did you see? Thanks as always... Gage

With you being in Florida, you might give Thumper a call.

I found this during a drooling session one day and thought that you might find it interesting. Good Luck!

I'm interested in this as well - has anyone done a comparison to see what different manufacturers offer for the price? i.e. aftermarket/stronger valves, a cam, new gaskets, etc...? I think this would help both of us as well as others make a decision

check us out... We use regular dailey drivers, with owners just like you, to bolt our head on and dyno!! No "test Mule" here with all the bells and whistles.. just cars like yours!! Being small we can pretty much make the Head to your application.. cool?? How does 240.8 BHP ( SAE 211 WHP) sound on a 04 MCS with Stock I/C, Stock Cam, and Stock exhaust header??
And we pulled over 245.7 BHP ( SAE 215 WHP) on an 06 with more mods..
Just a thought..

Here is some advice: research what is available. Ask questions such as is it ported by a 7-axis CNC machine or done by hand? Who designed the shape and on what computer program? Are swirl and tumble, and not just flow, measured? How does the injector trough function? Was it polished (because it shouldn’t be)? If you are changing the valvetrain, what components are being utilized and why? Is there a performance guarantee? Etc.
You must also be careful about power comparisons because not all disclose the variables. And if they do not account for them no comparison can even be made pull to pull.

I have the Thumper head on my MCS. Next to doing a pulley you cannot buy a better mod for the money.

It really makes a huge difference in power that is for sure!

More than a few pms/emails arrived in my box concerning price. A CNCed head that retains the stock valvetrain should cost around $1000 (Wegner Stage 1). The cost rises depending on the level of valvetrain components. For instance, the Wegner Motorsports Stage 2 head uses all the same components found on their NASCAR and Grand Am heads: Manley, CHE, and PSI. I do not have any knowledge of any other head for the Mini utilizing that level of components. Many are done by hand, only flowed with no knowledge of swirl and tumble measurements, polished (!), and utilize 6mm off-the-shelf valves such as Si or Ferrara.

I was going to include my 2 cents if its even worth that much
I spoke with Don at DMH Motorsport and his product seems to be the optimal of what I'm looking for.

I have also considered Thumper's head along with Ultrik which is sold by Mini Mania. Fireballed people were also consideration. I know that I will surely stay away from all the polished and hand maded ones which the Ultirk by Mini Mania is.

Actually NASCAR uses titaianum Valves.. they are SOOOOooo... expensive I cant even spell them.. LOL For 90% of the engines out there the stock componets rock!! More track than street, then the higher quality is needed, full out race... then yep, you gotta have the bad *** heads with all them bad *** parts.. Guys even though our platform is new.. heads and racing have been around for a zillion years, it is just what you need or want ( if you dont need it)!! Cool!! and you have to remember.. the Head is only part... gotta tune it after for max power, but we all know that.. cool??

Just me....................................

Thumper

PS: Air flow doesnt CARE about the finish in the ports!! Fuel and air want a ruff surface ( like 100 grit) and exhaust is better smooth ( polished if you will) to minimze carbon build up!! There is more power to be gained from a CnC'd head with hand smoothing and blending... cool Huh?? also the wording " Ported and Polished" is the accepted wording for a "worked or Modified head" End result being POWER!! LOL

Another thought....

Another option might be to look at who's heads are out in the competition arena. Example, Steve Diniz, one of our sponsored driver's has had our Stage 2 head for some time now with zero issues and many wins under his belt. Everyone can throw numbers and terms around but the proof is in the pudding.

Also view our main web page and have a look at some of the videos. All these great clips utilize our headwork.

The proof could also be in the driver
