New 215/40/17 GY F1 GS-D3 shoes
Just replaced my runflats on my '05 MCS with non-runflats Goodyear F1 GS-D3 215/40/17 from the Tire Rack. After reading many posts here and on other forums, I decided to go for the 40 series instead of the 45 series. Mostly, because the 215/40/17s appear more performance oriented and the 215/45/17s are more comfort oriented.
My initial thoughts, after only 25 miles but they were back to back old vs new tires, are the following:
- The 215/40/17 are "smoother" , and more quiet than the runflats 205/45/17. Based on this the 45s must be fairly soft.
- Steering inputs appear even crisper
- The car seems to handle even better, although too early too really tell, tires will need about 100 miles to settle in.
- Not that I care much, but the tires look very nice, agressive but not over the top, and appearance of stance is a stronger. Wider tires look nice. I was worried if there would be a big gap since I have not lowered the car, but fortunately it is not apparent.
- Need to buy "Fix a Flat" can for the trunk!!!
I will post more as I put more miles on the tires. I drive fairly agressively and enjoy the frequent track days. Thank you all for your great feedback as I was researching what tires to get.

FYI, I was informed by the tire guy in my town that the "Fix a Flat" stuff has an acid in it that eats up the tire from the inside!
I was on the phone, so I don't think he would tell me that just to get business, but who knows? Kind of makes you think about the road side fixer!!
