Has anyone run the minimania borla venturi?

i was wondering if anyone has run the mini mania borla exhaust venturi on the race exhaust?

does it just take the drone out at 3k? does there seem to be any loss of power?

thanks
Jonathan

I'm the one that wrote the technical blurb on the product but I have honesly never used them on a MINI. As far as taking out the drone, it is quite possible as this is what is used in motorcycle straight pipes for the same purpose. Here is what I wrote:

"This type of insert has been used on Harley Davidson motorcycles for years and has proven to be quite effective on race bikes. The venturi actually speeds up the extraction of gasses from the down pipe by creating a siphon type of effect as gasses pass through the venturi insert, speed up and - theoretically - pull trailing gasses by creating a negative pressure within the mufflers. I used to design and build two-stroke expansion chamber exhausts. In designing such an animal, one must not only be concerned with issues such as backpressure, but also with things such as pulse, shape, exit timing, and volume. A “tuned” exhaust is just that - an exhaust that is tuned like a musical instrument to take advantage of sound pulses within the chamber. Although this is not a big concern with four-stroke MINI engines since they don’t scavenge and rely on pulse packing, one would think that some restriction would be beneficial."

I've seen a lot of these types of unit on the market...

and while some have made claims for large power due to reduced back pressure, I've yet to see any OBJECTIVE data that these really work any better than other systems. But they sure do change the sound differently than a standard muffler....
