the dealerships were offered 60% off of dinan stuff. Whether or not they chose to pass that along to the public...

Intakes were about 60 bucks for any car... software was free, exhausts were in the 250 dollar range... suspension systems were stupid cheap... and if you had an older BMW like mid 90s 5 series, if you were an employee they would almost give stuff to you. They would sell you parts for like 25-100 bucks. They were "blowing out there inventory" it is very interesting what is/was going on. It definetly sounds like they are going to have to change there business model or they are going out of business. The reason why i say they are going to have to change there business model is because if you look at the products they have available DINAN hasn't comeout with any real performance parts for any car with a valvetronic motor. Especially software. I believe this technology is a little too far out there for tuners to understand, modify and adjust correctly with out sending the ECU into a spin. Baiscally the only thing that DINAN is offering for Valvetronic Motors is a cold air intake or an exhaust... whoopty doo.

Concerning there throttle bodies... they always cost eleventy billion dollars and they hardly give you any more power... Dinan is going to have to do alot more to keep stay competitive. They may have to drop the warranty act and go after big horsepower numbers. thats just a thought

Well, I'm relieved I decided to go the JCW route...I'm sorry to hear that Dinan is having some "issues."

Why? It'll still be above the rest of the market. I would never be caught with a JCW or Dinan part on my MINI.

2 pnts for the use of eleventy in your post...

as for dinan. If what isellem is true and he hasn't lead me wrong yet... sounds like dinan is at least doing some very odd adjusting. I can't immagine what the future plan would be if they were liquidating that much backstock to dealers.

well, from what I can see from this thread, is most of this is good chit chat.
DINAN will be in the MINI market for sometime to come according to a very inside source and that a few dealers I am told are selling certain items to lower their inventory.
As for that wouldn't trade my 209 and awesome springs and sway bar for nothing.
HAVE A HAPPY THANKSGIVING.

I knew someone would appreciate ELEVENTY! LOL

And thank you for the compliment!

While i don't know exactly what is happening... its just odd what they are doing. Heck, i hope they don't go out of business. I think dinan is a great solution for others You will never see a dinan product on my car unless its given to me... I was NOT impressed with the supercharged dinan e46 m3. Anyways, i think they have a great facility and could produce some parts that make REAL power if only they had just tried and they weren't so gunshy about the warranty deal... heck, offer a warranty part and then a race part with no warranty.... thats what i would do if I were them.

Instead... ill just stick to the "race" stuff... its more fun

Hey J....I wouldn't touch that Dinan poop witha 100 ft stick. You could be like, "Hey J....let me give you Dinan stuff for the BMW/MINI for FREE!" I would be like, "That's okay dood...thanks for the offer though" The ONLY cool thing Dinan has EVER come out with was their CF cold air intake for the 3 series. And then they DISCONTINUED it! It was their most popular item! I was like WTF? Dinan and performance should never be used in the same sentence. Maybe Dinan and bankrupcy...lol

My buddy works for dinan and their not going out of business and I havent found any of their stuff for any cheaper then it was last year.

He would have called me, or just bought everything I might want from them and then called me about it. Dinan doesnt put any thought into the mini market at all. they tend to take others stuff and reverse engineer it to get quick r&d.

Their bread and butter are e46's M5/ and now M6's, my buddy calls me weekly to tell me about some new 600-700 hp monster turbo car he helped build. Their customer service sucks too.

Sucky cusomter service could be one reason to wonder if a company was going out of business....

Well, bad customer service will inevitably kill a business. I got so fed up with Tower Records customer service that I switched all of my business that formerly went to Tower to the Internet. Multiply that by a bunch of other people, and guess what - Chapter 7 proceedings....

All I got to say is that this is the worst kind of speculation...

There is not truth or any substantial information behind any of the conjecture. If you'd care to talk to the folks at Dinan, you'd find that

1) They just hired a new guy to coordinate sales efforts. If one thought about this, it would follow that they did that to a) change how things are sold or b) improve how things are sold. Otherwise a new SR hire is just a waste of profits.

2) Not all Dinan-licenced dealerships would even acknowledge that they sold Dinan parts if called on the phone...... Something had to change there. Think about this in the context of item #1. FWIW, a loca garage just became a Dinan Licenced Distributor. Makes me think that they are blowing off the dealers and going through tuning houses and service garages.

3) Not sure where some hear that offerings for the new BMWs aren't there. I watched a new 645 getting "probed" to decode the TB stuff in the ECU when I was there, they were looking for two more software guys to help with the ever increasing load of ECU work, and were about to release the Mini ECU code for 05+ cars.....

Life will go on, but out of business? Why would anyone even hazard so float suck a stinker? That's the internet equivalent of crapping in the pool! That's like trying to put out the fire of a rumor mill with a good dousing of gasoline! And I don't have a single piece of Dinan stuff on my car!

Anyone who helped fuel the fire here should be ashamed.

Matt

ps, they did over $15k at the Historics ALONE!

Yeah, what Dr. Obnxs said...

Dinan is not the devil nor are they the cat's meow. If they approach the market with a better array of products and service they will offer a good option for many more buyers. I personally like a lot of their stuff and will always keep an eye on 'em as an option for my MCS...

Then how would you know about their customer service? If you have never delt with them you WOULDN'T know! and 15k at the historics is TINY potatoes. When I was there they had 6 m5's all getting supercharger kits put on and some getting turbos. just the labor on one is over 15k.

I don't know about customer service...

nor did I comment on it. But I did spend most of a day there a few weeks ago, and spoke with them about plans for the near term and for the Mini. Re-read my posts in this thread.

I'll stick with my original position. If one wants to launch rumors over the closing of a business, the responsible thing would be to call and ask first.

Well, I do have one complaint about Dinan...I wish they would put together a suspension package for the Mini Cooper S Convertible. After reading the Dinan v. JCW article in MC2, I'd really consider putting a Dianan suspension in my convertible. And if Dinan is in good shape (and I hope it is), all the better for Mini Cooper (and BMW owners).

What doesn't fit?

now? Most go with a softer shock/spring for convertables, but the Konis are adjustable, I think...... There's nothing that won't let you bolt the parts up. If you are really interested, give them a call and talk to them about it.
