JCW Intake flap removal/itg PICS/writeup...

Ok - here's a detailed writeup about how to remove the JCW filter to mod the flap as well as install/clean your ITG filter. The removal was detailed in another thread with pics, so I'll not hit every detail there. This writeup is for people who can't do anything mechanically and would benefit from some specific, simple directions (like me!).

1. Use a torx 25 to unscrew these - don't pull 'em out all of the way:
1a. While you're right there, disconnect the vacuum line right next to the torx screw.

2. Use a flathead screwdriver to undo the clasp that holds the intake tube on:

3. Unhook this electrical thingy. Also, lift the positive battery connection up and to the left to free it from the intake.

4. Push the whole intake back and fiddle with it until it comes out. This might take a few minutes.

5. Once it's off, disconnect the vacuum line (1) and unscrew all of the circled screws. Once everything is off, take the flap off of the metal hook, then put it all back together.

6. Reconnect the vacuum line once everything is back on and you should have this:

7. To remove the stock filter and install an ITG filter (I recommend this), unscrew here:

8. Put it in, fasten it down:

9. Take the intake back to the car and put everything back together. Make sure the intake is sealed (run your finger down the place where the bottom meets the top section). Getting it back on can be tricky, but with enough fiddling, it will go on. This is the most frustrating aspect of the whole thing: getting the clasp to come back together! Every time I do it, I spend 15 minutes battling with it.

The first time I did this, I removed the whole vacuum mechanism as seen in pic.5. This worked, but it left the first vacuum line disconnected from anything (the one in pic 1), so I had to put a screw in it. I like this method better because the vacuum is going to where it's supposed to go and I don't have to worry about the stray line.

All in all I like the flap mod - the intake is still quiet by comparison to others, but the whine is definitely audible well below 4500 rpm. Added power? I think not.

No pictures here either. How about uploading the pictures to your gallery? The pictures will then be connected to this thread through NAM for future viewing.
