i was reading this ad for ingnition wires or something like that it said that it increased hp by 4-7 hp...but i remember reading a post here that stated that wires had nothing to do with hp gains...which is true?

This has started a storm of controversy before, but I'll give you what we have found here.

The Nology and Magnacor wires make a slight difference in horspower - like 1-2. The Nology wires make slightly more on the S, while the Magnacor make slightly more on the Cooper. I have driven both sets of wires, and I can honestly say that I noticed improved power from the Nology equipped S. The throttle response is just a bit snappier, and like I said, on the dyno it shows slight improvements. I didn't really notice a seat of the pants difference with the Magnacors on the S, but it still made hp on the dyno - though 1 less than the Nology (which in a percentage is huge - but the gains are so small, the error alone in dyno testing could account for it).

Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions.

IMHO, spark plug wires only need to be replaced when the old ones get cracked and/or eaten by rodents.

... like several things on a standard, production road car, the quality and performance is only average - and replacing a few things to juice it up a little is a good move ......... Then you can replace them when rotted or nibbled ...

In what way is the performance of stock wires impaired?

BTW, Volkswagen sells factory anti-rodent wires:
