Alta Crank Pulley for MC

Recently purchased an Alta crank pulley (standard size) for my 2003 MC. I experience some serious difficulties trying to put the bad boy on. I ended up towing it to Brad and Steve at the Custom Mini Shop in Fresno. Steve compaired the Alta pulley to my OEM pulley and observed a size difference (circ. that slips over crank shaft). The instructions state to install the pulley with a MINI Dealer authorized tool, or to place the pulley in an oven prior to slapping that sucker on. Well, long story short, Steve put my OEM pulley back on. Has anyone else experienced any troubles or has successfully put an Alta crank pulley (standard size) on an MC?
