Alta silicon hose vs. stock JCW

Well I funally went the warranty friendly route and had the JCW airbox installed. A great improvement in throttle response, but nothing in the sound department. If I switched the stock intake tube with the Alta silicone hose would I get either a few more ponies, a litlle better sound, or both?

There is claims of a few additional ponies but when I added it to my car I didn't notice any added power. I did hear a bit more throttle body noise but I have the Alta CAI and not the mostly closed JCW airbox.

I'd be happy with even a little added noise and it's only about $100 so I'll do it. What if I opened the flap permanently? That should free up a little more aural entertainment.

why have the JCW box at all? why not just use a open design from an aftermarket company if you want more noise?

there is a mod for the jcw airbox to take the flap out and use a k&n type filter instead of the paper one it come with. I have heard it and it adds noise and throttle response.

yeah I would say spend the 100 on a new filter for the box and (it wont be anywhere even close to 100) and then take the baffle out of the jcw box. That sould give you the sound you want and a cleanable replacement filter and save you some cash for other mods.

AJUSA.com has the K&N RU-3130 filter for under $30 (shipped) and removing the flap only adds 5min to the whole process.

Hello,

Just jumping in for a quick response. We just recently dyno tested our 06 mule, with a miriad of ALTA parts. One of the test was with the inlet hose on a 15% pullied car, w/air box, w/o air box etc. There is a consistant gain of 4 WHP peak and as much as 8 WHP gain in the mid range. (We aren't hiding these results, expect to see them on the website very soon. I just don't have a copy to post here.) May not change the sound much, but would certainly be an excellent compliment to the JCW box.

Thanks again!

4WHP across the RPM range?

How can it be possible from an intake hose alone?

Don't get me wrong, I believe your results! I've only gave great comments about my Alta CAI over the last 2 years and I still love it! I'm just curious!

FOLKS: Totally agreed. I am not allowed to release much information but there is a major change slated to the website in the next 2-3 weeks.

Also, the inlet hose results are factual, as I mentioned I don't have it right here to hand over, but we aren't hiding anything either. We too have been skeptical of the gains, but they were originally reported by an independant company on the East Coast, then we had nearly identical results by a local but independent company www.pdxtuning.com. Again, nothing to write home about, but the information will be readily available very soon.

Thanks again folks!

nothing to write home about? I'd think it would be. 4whp from a slightly wider hose. Very hard to believe. I'm glad you guys are skeptical of the results too, but hey, results are results. No point trying to explain it. But was the testing process controlled and accurate?

I'd be interested in more info on that... Just ordered a Dinan CAI and will be getting the Dinan Throttle Body eventually... was thinking about throwing on an Alta hose, but didn't know if it would give me anything...

etalj: Yes independent. Done by a local company. Again, that information will be on the new website later this month. Sorry for the delay. But again this was also confirmed by another independent on the East Coast as well. Thank you!

roehrigs01: It will and does. Again, sorry for the delay in the dyno plots. See em soon!
