New to Engine Mods

I am interested in learning about cars and how the engines work, and later modding my car performance wise. One problem.. I dont know anything about this stuff.

I know there have probably been a ton of threads like this, and I'm sorry to add one more, but I coudlnt find any explaining what I want to know.

Could any of you guys point me out to any information for COMPLETE noobs on cars, something that could teach me what the heck a 15% pulley is.. or why you would spend 500 dollars on a new exhaust. I want to know about all this stuff.

Thanks!

I don;t know where to direct you, so I will post a quick primer.

- A 15% pully gives you ~10-15 more hp by making your supercharger spinn faster.

-A good set of mods for you might be a 15% pully, CAI, exhaust, and ECU tuning.

-People mostly buy exhausts for the sound. They also cost more like $600 to $800, not $500. They don;t give you much power, but they can sound mean.

Don;t do the work yourself. Talk to tuner shops like Custom MINI Shop or Webb Motorsports to have them do the work for you. i don;t know ehere youre located, so I can;t direct you to a shop thats close by. If you wana try and do the work yourself, you can get the parts for cheep from Custom MINI Shop. They are my main supplier for parts from Alta, m7, and just about any other tuning company for MINI.

The simple stuff I could do on my own. I have had enough sense to tint my tail lights, install an m7 grill and paint the metal framework behind it, and install a new hoodscoop.

Thanks for the info. I had a friend who claims he installed a new pulley on his car.. would he be bsing me or is this a simple installation?

And "Custom MINI Shop"? Is that literally the name of a company?

Yes. Their web site is www.customminishop.com.

The pully isn;t too hard to do. You need a couple speial tools and you will have to jack the engine up out of the engine bay about 8 inches. I could do it, but i just had Steve at Custom MINI Shop do it. There is much less stress involved in having another person do it. You could do the CAI and exhaust by yourself, though..
