Another possibility is that the catch tank is mounted too low relative to the breather cover. I know that in other cars such as Imprezas, you have to mount the OCC higher than the breather cover, otherwise you get excess residue buildup. In the Mini's engine bay, I wouldn't think that this would be too likely though seeing as space it at a premium.
For the amount of oil you are collecting though, and the fact that many have mounted OCC in positions lower than the breather cover and are not reporting 'collections' of residue as great as yours, I would say that one of your rings is allowing some blowby through.
