Megan header installed. Power loss

I have a stock 04S JCW. I installed a Mini Madness CAI. Worked great power was up noticable. Last night I installed a Plio / megan header powder coated with the test pipe provided. Power seems way down. No snap at 5,000 rpms any more just lots of noise. Anyone have any thoughts?

That is weird...

It should not make a huge difference, but it should help...

Power lost??? Hmm, the second I drove my car after the header was installed it was very noticeable. Midrange torque added is significant.

did you have a test pipe or a cat? because chances are if you have a race pipe, the power loss below 6k is understandable.... car will ONLY start feeling powerful beyond that point in a straight through exhaust....

otherwise... no idea... i have my obx in and since i've enjoyed more spirited mid-range... and an awesome sound!

yep, put a cat in it...You do need some backpressure to keep torque up down low....

Not exactly. Under vacuum, yes; positive pressure, no.

this is a myth....backpressure doesn't actually give torque down low. However it's not completely untrue....basically you don't get the scavenging effect with a large diameter exhaust at low rpm (gas velocity is too low). Basically when the exhaust flow is not high (i.e. at low rpm) this usually means that a higher backpressure is preferred to make gas flow fast.

Me too! What *could* the dealer do to an installed header to give you all that power back? Did you have the gasket in upside down? Inquiring minds need to know...

Okay sorry. When I installed the header the precat 02 was rubbing on the insulation thus shorting it out. The dealer reposition the hole so the 02 would not rub. Replaced the 02. And some remapping and WOW is all I can say.

Your dealer did "some remapping"? Do you mean flashing the lastest version of ecu s/w or did they actually do some sort of custom work.....not something I would expect from a dealer.....

From what I got from it was reflashing to compensate for the headed. I am scheduled to get remapping with Mr. Webb. I may cancel that appointment. Not sure the car can run any stronger or better. The header does make a difference. Mid range is stronger then the hit at 5,000 rpm is like a blast off. I wish I would have had this a MTTS.
