2005 tranny with LSD retrofit question...

Hi motorers!

I've been having some problems with my dealer... They are installing a 2005 tranny with LSD on my 2003 MCS. (built date 09-2002)

Does anyone know if the 2003 shifter cables will fit on a 2005 tranny?
Are they the same lenght?
The dealer say it will fit with my current cables (2003)...
But my Montreal's dealer say no. And my favorite MINI shop says no too...

My car is currently at the dealer in Miami... I'd need to get an answer ASAP.

I took my car back yesterday evening and returned it to the dealer 5 minutes later because the shifter would no engage in R,1,3,5 gears. The advisor says it is because his tech forgot to install the clips on the cables... But my favorite MINI shop (Bimmershop) told me I'd need 2005 cables...

Anyone knows the answer to that 1million $ question??

Please help me!

I'm not sure if this helps, but I had my car in a few months back (11/03 build MCS) with a complaint of hard shifting. It spent 2 days at the shop b/c they "ordered the wrong cables". I got the car back and popped the shifter boot. They changed my complete shifter, including the cables and the shifter pivot lug to the "later style", presumably to go with the later style cables they ordered. (see the different parts diagrams on www.realoem.com) Soo- long story short, it seems my compatability problem wasn't with the cable connections to the tranny, but the cable connections to the shifter. If you are reusing the same shifter style and the same cable style, I don't see how you would have a problem with the new transmission. Hope this helps.

Thanks!

So if I understand correctly : If I keep my shifter's assembly and cables (2003) with a new transmission, it should be ok... ??

I would think so- If the new style cables fit my old style tranny, I would think the reverse is true as well. I do know that the new style cables will not fit the old style shift housing, but you are keeping the old cables and the old shifter, so you shouldn't have a problem. Good luck, and I'm jealous that you're getting the lsd!

lol don't be jealous... It costs me more than 4000$ for that... And I only do it because my transmission was going dead...

Or else, I would have kept that $$$ for a twincharger kit!!

So basically, the 2002-2204 cables and 2005 cables have the same lenght?
