Hmmm, maybe...

I have also seen the rubber seal pull up in that corner near the hood scoop and actually leave an air gap between the seal and the metal airbox... In that case the seal might have a misleadingly visible contact with the hood.

I would guess that either way the gap isn't that big, though. It seems like the most obvious contributer to heat in the airbox is the fact that it is made of metal.

At least here in hot Southern California, if immediately after driving for a bit you pop the bonnet and touch the metal airbox, then touch the filter, you'll see what I mean. The airbox is uncomfortably hot, the filter also pretty hot... Add insulation and you'll see some real differences.

Some folks here in NAM threads (ie: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=71139 ) have demonstrated that with thermometers.
