Exhaust RAttles............. :(

I need some help finding and fixing some rattles.

I am not 100% if the rattles are coming from my newly installed borla exhaust or not but I know that the noises weren't present before the install of the exhaust.

I have a 03 Borla Race exhaust installed on my 05 Mini. With inner hanger just hanging in the air.

It was FINE for the first 2~3days after installing it but suddenly, it has changed to a rattling magic box now.

The rattles sounds like.....

A 'VERY' Tiny rattle coming from rear, more like an elctronic sound. Sound you can hear when you play around with your CD-player.. (rattles comes out in any gears, any RPMs, (sometimes even in rough idle) as long as I hit the gas/ let off the gas)

Another sound is humpy metally rattle, in low RPM range.

Help me guys My car sounds like a farting riced out civic now.. with all them crazy rattles.

Any chance of you recording the rattle sound and posting the audio clip here? As far as the free hanging inner hangar, why do you take it to a muffler shop? They can retrofit that hangar for you to fit your '05. I know it's possible to do that because I talked to someone at Helix13 and he said it was doable. I don't think it's a good idea to leave a hangar floating like that. I just installed a Borla Race Exhaust into my '04 MCS myself this past weekend. I, too, was paranoid about all the new strange sounds coming from the new exhaust.

just installed Quicksilver exhaust last night, and have been working on getting all the little rattles gone. Try looking at the back heat shields, the one above where the mufflers are. move them around or bend em and see if the rattles go away. That and also the skin of the back can rattle, so i put some double sided foam inbetween the bits of plastic and its seems to have helped the rattles. Good luck!

Unfortunately, you are looking at something of a scavenger hunt. Slip joint connections could have loosened up, the parts could have shifted around (especially if a slip joint connection loosened), and, and, and.... Once you have eliminated any noise from external sources (such as exhaust parts hitting heat shields) and you are still getting noises, then you are looking at one or more defective parts that will need to be isolated and removed and exchanged for a replacement. The worst experience is when the replacement is also defective....
