05' stock airbox...

I was tinkering around under the bonnet this afternoon and I noticed that my stock air box has a pass through to the cowl vent area. It is VERY low and there is a rubber grommit connecting the two. This pass through is Very low in the box. Am I correct to think that the intake would be getting some fresh cool air?

I have the stock filter and I am going to be changing over to the JCW or the Dinan soon.

Thanks.

Yep - it gets fresh air from the front 'snorkel' and the rear hole. JCW and Dinan give you a bigger rear hole and a more free flowing filter.
