Drivetrain ECU Upgrades - Shark Injector
ECU Upgrades - Shark Injector
All,
I have an '05 Cooper S and I have alread put on a Cold Air Induction Kit and had the 15% Reduction Pulley Installed...my next step was going to be buying the Shark Injector that downloads a couple of changes into the computer from a diagnostic port.
This can be reversed at anytime, and it doesn't require taking out my ECU and sending it anywhere. What I have read and have been told, it is a great way to add around 10HP for a lot less hastle then other ECU Upgrdes...including Unichip.
So, can anyone comment on this...do you know what the straight skinny is on the Shark Inject

I had it.
Replaced it with Webb Powerchip in late '03.
The Shark's usability was nice, especially with being able to remove it.
But I was underwhelmed with the performance. It was a bit smoother, but I would've estimated the HP incease at no more than 2-3.
Later, after installing the Shark, Randy Webb was in town, so he let me try the Webb/Powerchip download. This was before the Unichip was out.
The difference was shocking, in favor of the Webb/Powerchip.
At the price point, it appears that MTH and GIAC offer substantially more bang for the buck. Except for the Shark's clear advantage of removability.

My 04 MCS had the Shark installed when I got it, also a 15% pully, CAI, OCC.
Not sure of before and after, but the combo of pulley, CAI and Shark makes it much quicker than any standard MCS I have driven.

It's just that the Shark's contribution is almost nil, compared to the pulley and cai.

I have a friend that had the shark injector on his MCS race car...it did not show any gains when we had his car dyno'd. Driveability was a little smoother but no power gains.
He also had a conforti shark injector for his E36 M3...it made LESS horsepower with the shark program, than it did with the stock program.
Big skip IMO.
EvoTech and MTH are the only ECU upgrades worth considering from what I've heard before.
