Borla Race Installed.. few Questions.

Heyy NAMers
I just slapped on the Borla Race exhaust today and I have few questions regarding to it..

First of all, tips are pretty darn close to the black plastic mold on the bumper.
I've been driven the car for a while (today,,) but haven't seen it melting or anything. But is there a chance it will? + if so, what should I do to prevent it from getting messed up? (i saw misfitoy placed a sheet of metal near there..is that for protecting the mold and bumper from the exhaust?)

Second, it is not 100% centered. Well I really don't mind about this but just seeing if anyone else's is not centered. Mine isn't aligned centered vertically.

And last! why is the tip sticking out so far.. looks a bit weird but i guess it's like that eh? longer the better..?

Thank you guys! I might post a video sometime later if anyone's interested (all the previous borla race clips seems to be too old to exist in NAM.. )

Thats just the way it is. Its not going to melt anything HOWEVER, the tips can get hot (well any exhaust can get hot) and my wife got like a first degree burn (nothing serious) from wearing shorts and touching them while unloading groceries. Lesson learned, don't touch the hot tips

As to the metal, there should be a metal heat shield around the bottom from the OEM exhaust.

As to sticking out, mine kind of points up a bit (not perfectly horrizontal) if thats what you mean. I think its normal.

My Magnaflow melted the edge slightly. Mostly due to the trumpet tip design. If yours is not touching it should be just fine.

I would take chow's advise though and avoid touching them right after you shut the car down as they get dam hot!

I just checked mine and I can get my finger between the top of the tips and the bottom of the bumper so that 1/2 to 3/4" gap must be fine as far as the heat is concerned. Its the very END of the tip where the gasses escape that can be very hot upon shutting down the car.

I just installed the Borla race exhaust last weekend also. My tips ended up pointing at a downward angle to avoid contacts w/ the bumper. The tips do stick out a little longer than I expected them to.

Don't touch those tips after driving or be careful when loading the boot with shorts ... they will give a NASTY burn

yes, that was the first thing I warned my wife (the MINI is her daily driver) about if she is planning to get anything out of the boot after stopping the car.

One of the strong points of the Borla is adjustability. The tips can be moved up or down, in or out, and left or right, it’s all up to the installer. The weak point is terrible warranty service.

It took five months to replace a defective Y-pipe. The retailer gave up and dumped the issue in my lap. I even had a higher up at Borla get involved that also was un-able to get things moving in the time frame promised.
