Unichip problems reported in NM

I was at the dealer (Sandia MINI) today and the tech warned me to keep an eye on my UNIchip, as he has seen 4 failures recently with cars using them. He says that removing the Chip and reseting the codes fixes the problem with the car, hence he believes it's a Chip problem. Mmm, occasional problems with a component is to be expected but 4 in Albuquerque in a couple of months sounds like a conspiracy...
Any word on the street that the Chips are faulty, or experiencing abnormal failures?

cheers,
