02 Simulator

Just wondering exactly how these work and what the pro's & cons are. If you look a few threads back I am installing a 2 piece Megan header. Apparently with the lack of cat ( second piece is test pipe) I am going to throw codes.

I would like to know my options. Is going catless hard on the vehicle? Does the 02 simulator hook into the provided 02 bung? How difficult is the install if I go this route.

Thanks

Seann

Much easier on the vehicle due to lower back pressure, but much harder on the environment.

Splices into the existing 4 wires of the o2 sensor.

No more difficult than a radio installation.

The O2 sim works well. Once I installed and cleared the codes all is back to normal. If installed per the directions it should not be detected with any inspections.

I've heard some designs don't work quite correctly with the newer ODBII systems properly (not sending the correct voltages and durations of each voltage, etc.)

We installed one on an 06 JCW it works perfect. We got the one from 02simulator.com it has the installation instructions on-line. We installed a header and at the same time took out the cat. The car ran rich with the C.E.L. light on. After I put in the 02sim. the light is gone.

I'm not sure about other cars but ours back fires like anything. Backing off the gas to change gears, taking your foot off the gas just a little where the tires drive the engine, and gearing down will result in back fire. The higher the revs the louder it is. Like a gun firing! It was way worse with the C.E.L. on but got a bit better with it gone after the 02sim. It got worse again after we installed the GTT C.A.I. but still no C.E.L.

We are installing a metal matrix race cat from Randomtechnologys to try and remedy this POPPING. It's embarassing, startles others on the streets, and worse will attract cops. It did pop before we took out the cat but not anything near what it's like now. We're in Vancouver, BC.

My new header sans cat also produces significant backfires. I think the ECU tune has to be modified for a header, and I will be sending my Unichip to WMS to get it remapped shortly.
cheers,

A backfire still means rich...
What is happening is unburned gas is burning in the exhaust. In a time long ago $.25 gas was king. Durring this period of 22' cars that had road hugging weight, for handeling, often, to be cool, noticed, admired by your piers, **** a whole bunch of people off, you could turn the ign off, then after a desired time, turn the ign back on and get a flame belching backfire. You might even blow the muffler up...Ah those were the days.....

I heard that you can use a one ohm resistor in line with the signal wire to keep the lights off.

Well, a 1 ohm resistor is significantly cheaper than the o2 simulator. My o2 simulator works very well, but I didn't try the resistor...

YMMV,
