ALTA Sportone Exhaust.. Pros/Cons?

I love the look and sound of the Sportone so am just wondering if anyone who currently has one could give me some feedback, positive or negative? Thanks!

I don't have one -- I know, no help here -- but I'm a fan. From what I've seen and heard of this exhaust, I really wish Alta would make a system for the Cooper.

Have you considered just buying the one for the S and having the final pipe rebent / cut to exit at the standard Cooper location and putting on a new tip?

I ask because I've seen one Cooper that had an Alta exhaust done this way. I don't know the person, just saw the MINI in a parking lot, left a "spotter" note on it inviting the owner to the local MINI club and never heard back from him/her.

I know Draggomann on here has an ALTA exhaust. Be careful though if you have the Aero Kit, because he said he has burn marks/holes in the bumper. If you do, make sure the pipes aren't to close, or else you'll need to bend them and get custom/other tips.

Sorry if it's hard to read, my mother is bugging/distrating me!

I had one for about a year and really loved, sounded great at idle and at full throttle. No droning. Looked awesome....had to switch to Borla and then Milltek for testing/reviews, but still like the Alta....I should have some sound clips on our site, either in the product info page or the how to for the install..

Yup, but it has a 2.5" main pipe.....not generally considered optimal for the Cooper.....seems like a bit too much surgery to make it practical.

Or you could go for a single sided custom from a local exhaust shop. You can get a Magnaflow muffler and resonator at a very reasonable price.

Hey Aaron, the sound clips are in the "how to section" but they didn't work for me.. just an FYI... I'm pretty sure though the exhaust thread here on NAM has a clip and it works.

BigDaddy....I have one on my car & it has been fine while under stock power & since the addition of the TC it has work just as well. The fit was easy, probably eaiser than a dual mufller system I would imagine. The only issues I have heard of was the tips turning different colours as it tends to send most the exhaust out the left tip over the right, thus producing more heat and discolouring the left tip. Alta has addressed this a long time ago by preheating both tips so they are already a matched colour.

Hi Big Daddy, I have the Alta and I love it. As polizei said I am having a problem with the tips burning holes threw my bumper because the tips don't clear the bumper. It has a great sound, but just remember that sound clips can be misleading. I get complements on the sound all the time.

Thanks to all who posted. I'm 99% sold on this system already so it's time to start saving some coin.

Maybe we can help with the extra 1%.....

The tips have changed a few times over the years. The latest(has been for about 1 year) is the SS tips are not heat treated, but now chrome plated. There is no discolorization with them and very easy to clean.

Regarding the body kits. There isn't really any problem with the newer cars with the twisted inner hanger. This really helps with any swing that can occur.

Our system is (reported by our dealers) to be the best sounding system out there, and the least complained about regarding elevated sound levels.

Hope that helps!

Riding with Draggonmann, I can say it does sound quite nice. I imagine with a header it would sound even nicer!

Check with Chad. At his Wash and Shine party, the other day, I think he mention there was a car with it installed - maybe Bucks??? If so you'll be able to hear it in person.

kurvhugr,
We too were a little worried about how it would look. But the chrome plater we found (one of a very few that can do SS) does an amzing job. It looks like polished SS, but with out the color issues.

BigDaddy,
Our price is $630 plus shipping. Our dealers can offer you a little better price, and much quicker shipping. This is of course if you have a dealer close by.

This is our dealer list, which had most of them dealers on it. I say most because there are some that buy from these dealers which we don't know about.

Jeff,

I was there and we fired the car up to listen to it. That's what pretty much sold me on it. Where were you, btw?
