Neat idea.....but I hope that's not PVC. PVC will melt at a fairly low temp. You could try CPVC for a higher melting point.

parts

If you want a soft hanging "bag" with pump one can be found in a toyota 4 runner for the rear window.
It is located in a rear cubbie and the bracket can be removed with 2 bolts.
I picked one up ay the wrecker for $5.00 (not for this use but thought I would let you know.

Any update? New improvement's, or anything of that nature? Can you really use this for street use, or would this only benefit at the track/strip?

Is there any possibility you could cool the metal of the IC too fast and crack it?

Just curious,

If I dont use a different button, and just stick with the lever on the steering wheel, the wipers still wipe. Any ideas on how to make them....not?

Doubt it very seriously.

I've sprayed mine with ice water.. It doesn't get that hot and you don't cool it all that quickly.

w00t for bringing back an old(er) thread.

Alright, I'm wanting to do this, but have a couple of questions. Since I installed a HAI, the original space where the filter went is empty space. I was thinking of putting the top back on and lining it in something so that I could hold water in there. Seems to me a big enough space to put a bag or box of somesort to hold water. What would I be able to fit in there, and be able to hold water? I could run the line from the buttom, through the "inlet hole." Ie, here:

http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j96/polizei1/HAI3.jpg

I could then run the line up into the front of the IC, with some sort of tubing, but I'm not sure which? I would like my system to resemble the peice like the ALTA IC Sprayer.

Problem #2: How would I hook up a switch or something of somesort to make the water release from the buttom of the "water bag" onto the IC? I would need to somewhat pressurize the water, so that it would actually come out. Then, what would the switch go to? You know, to actually release the water?

Thanks for any input, and sorry if it's confusing.

I agree. Guys spay their intercoolers with nitrous and CO2 all the time. I mean there are always freak accidents but your pretty safe with h20. -- Johan

the switch would be wired to an electric windshield washer pump. that's how you get it there. don't worry about pressurizing the container. that would be inefficient and just generally not the way to go.

You'll end up spraying your IC with 120+ degreeF water. Thats no good.

does the cooling come from the evaporation of the water or the temperature? if it is evap then it shouldn't matter what the temp is to begin with.

im 90% sure that it's evaporation which is why they are more effective if they are sprayed as a mist rather than a bucket of water. Little droplets of mist will evaporate much faster than a puddle of water.

Sure it does.

The hotter the water is the less heat it will draw away from the IC.

Say you have 2 pots of water. 1 filled with 120F water and the other filled with 70F water.

Will it not take more energy to evaporate the pot of 70F water?

Same thing with the IC. Your cooling properties are going to be greatly reduced with hot water, making it almost pointless to have a sprayer then, IMHO.

True, but don't mix volume and temp together.

The key is to try to get as much heat energy away from the IC and into the water. The cooler the water, the more energy it will suck off the IC before evaporating.

Think of if you get sprayed with a hose in the summer. What's going to cool you down faster? A mist of 70F water... or a mist of 120F water?

yah, you are right....just meant to say that volume is a factor

That burns shut if off!!!!!

I'm thinking about doing this as part of the improving the airflow in and around the IC project in another thread. Personally I think the optimal mount location is going to be right in front of the A/C radiator.

1) I rarely use the A/C unless we hit 90% humidity (like yesterday) or my co-pilot claims the wind will know up her hair.

2) Its just about the only under hood location that doesn't suffer from heat soak

3) I imagine it would be realatively easy to keep a refillable source of ice water there.

4) The hoses wouldn't need to be near any moving parts and could easly avoid kinks from other components, also the distance needed for the water to travel is fairly short.

To solve problem #2 get a pump (windshield srayer would probably be borderline overkill) and wire up a momentary switch and you'll be all set to go.

Hrmm, where can I get a pump from? There arn't any junkyards around me that I'm aware of. I really wanted to do this...but wow. I think the easier route would be to just buy the ALTA sprayer next year.

just go to autozone and get one they carry one for most makes/models out there, just find one that doesn't $$$ too much.

Hrrm. I still don't like the idea of anything "ghetto" being on my car...I think I'll just wait until late next year, maybe 08' or 09' until I can buy a sprayer.
