Yes, there's a dyno shop in Mesa, AZ (suburb of PHX) that will finetune your ECU with dyno runs. They are Mynes Performance. Check here for the cost of dynotuning your MCS

Matt,
my thoughts exactly.
A VIN free tool would transform the MINI tuning scene, in a way that the programmer (me, you or vendor) will mean more than the tool itself.
I would guess that an ideal solution would be a plug n' play ecu like M800, http://www.motec.com.au/oem.htm for *** "wing" cars (no offence). The maps produced can be locked if needed, so this addresses any "mental work" issues that may occur.
I am only trying to emphasize the absence of such product in the MINI market. I think ALTA will-has introduced an ecu (HYDRA?) with their T/C kit, but still don't know if they will let end users play with it and to what extend.

dominicminicoopers,
thank you for the link. Still this falls into the flash products.

How does that differ? I thought you were looking for car specific dyno tuning where the map is fine tuned in on the dyno to program it specifically to how your car behaves.

He wants to do it himself..

as he drives, and make changes as needed as he continues to mod his car. There is still no inexpensive way to do that for our cars, the way an aftermarket ECU or some SW will. If MTH would sell a map editing kit for $500 over the cost of CarTune, I'd buy...

While the dyno guys can do a custom tune, it gets real expensive real fast if you keep modding your car. Or if you want 3-4 different maps for different environments.

I didn't know that you could update the values without flashing the ECU. You mean it is possible to change the values while the ignition was continusously on?

But some others can. You can re-read my post to mean, taking data while driving, tweaking a map at a rest stop, and testing right away. There is a company that makes an ECU emulator that allows you to make changes on the fly, but not cheap either! And I don't know if they support the Mini ECU. They only support some Motorola processors for that application.

Dr Obnxs beat me.....lol.

dominicminicoopers,
First of all i would have to drive my car to their dyno and i live in Greece, lol. Further more custom flashes can be done here in Greece also, by local tuners
But the most importand is that i will be getting a "black-box" product no manageabilty for the end user.

Do you mean an ECU emulator that replaces the physical stock ECU unit? piggybacks it?

Sorry I misunderstood your post. I thought you were interested in knowing wether or not it's been done, not necessarily somewhere where you could do it. I thought you might want to contact them, etc. My mistake.

Thanks,

Anyone know if BIM-COM is still alive? If it has been "dumped" does that mean the beta copies become freeware?

Not quite. Check copywrite law. They own it for a quite a long time even if they abandon it unless they EXPLICITLY agree to release the code under a "free" agreement. Good try though.

So still no Bim-COM or anything else from anyone else to do the same sort of thing? Looks like every mention of bim-COM has now gone from the site.

Maybe Andy sold his MINI and his heart just wasnt in it any more to continue with the programing. I know I get like that when I loose interest in something.

I hope someone picks it up, I loved my VAG-COM (which I use on my MINI for basic OBD stuff) and pray the MINI/BMW has someone as talented as the VAG guys.

How do you get it to work with your MINI? I have HEX-CANBUS VAGCOM with the latest software and for the life of me can't get it to scan my MINI

Suggestions??

BTW, The Autoenginuity product looks pretty killer too. Can't wait to see it in person John!

You're speaking CAN and your Mini isn't. But you could buy an 07! I think the VAG-COM (CAN) will get standard codes from the new Mini.....

This is quite aged thread, but:

Ross-tech website is no longer functional, but I have found http://obdtester.com/bimcom - they either sold the whole project or it is a different product. VCDS-like BMW tool with programming functions would be nice to have.

(the screenshots show "BimCOM DEBUG", so current status is questionable)
