One ball replacement pipe

I am looking to do the one ball mod soon. (need to recover the bank after the dragon ) I talked to a few shops in town about doing it and they all recommmended getting a pipe that was specific to the MINI. It is between the MyMini pipe and GTT. Any reason I should get one over the other?

Well for one thing, the MyMini is cheaper. The current conversion for £79 is $141.30. And the GTT looks nice because its all polished but who is going to see it! Go with the MyMini, but I would ask some muffler shops what they would charge to replace it with a pipe that they have in the shop, I read someone got it done for as low as $90.

That is what I had done originally, but they, all seperatly, said they have better luck using replacement pipes. Sounds like they are lazy.

I did the 1-ball with the MyMini pipe. I have to tell you that it fit perfectly into place (the GTT would as well). The only deciding factor between the two is where you live - if in UK, no doubt the GTT and if in the USA, the MyMini.

Car you have one made up - sure but will it be mandrel bent? will it fit w/ out rattles? Going this route is purely hit or miss. You might get a talented guy or you might not. You can go PepBoys and buy a piece of flexible exhaust tubing and a couple of clamps.

The 1-ball is an excellent exhaust system for the MINI and a worthy "bang for the buck mod". You should read the back pressure thread over at mini2 that Roland of GTT is conducting. As well here you can read threads and see what people are saying.

Hint - the money you save w/ the one ball - buy a cheapie header like OBX and you will have one of the best performance exhaust systems there is in my opinion.

Good luck

Eliminator pipe, $129. jack stands, $49. 6 pack of your favorite beverage, $7. an afternoon sawzalling your exhaust, priceless. I am thinking of going the one dongle way myself, I always pass this performance exhaust place and one of these days i'll stop in to see if they can do it for me.

Cost nothing to stop by (take a pic w/ you) and if you get a good feeling about it and its less than 50 bucks - proabably worth a shot. Your either going to be very happy but if not atleast you didn't drop a big dime.

The mymini is identical w/ ss clamps ect......
Just so everyone knows - you will see at this site claims of 9hp increase - this gain was obtained with the pipe and a CAI.

that they gained 9HP on a CAI equipped car.

But whatever, it sure beats $600+ for a cat back system.

No - the dyno number was derived on a car that had the pipe and CAI installed. 9hp - CAI hp number gain = net pipe gain. So if you hvae a CAi that claims 5 hp the pipe contributed 4 hp.

Absolutely worth while mod - especially if you follow rolands - back pressure post on mimi2

Here's what it says...

"Dyno results may vary. The test car was fitted with an open element cone filter intake."

I've sent an e-mail asking for clarification.

I've been contemplating the pipe from MyMini for a little while now, and it seems like it'd be a reasonable DIY (no harder than swapping out a pulley, at least). My concern is over the clamps. Since I don't have any welding tools (or skills, for that matter), I considered the clamp-on pipe within my skill level. My question, however... are the clamps sufficient to keep the pipe in place without exhaust leaks? Or is this a part that should be purchased and taken to a shop to weld in?

Clamps will work fine.

But you may want to check them every now and then, just to be sure. Welding them up afterwords is a good move, but you can't then go back to stock as easily (can't imagine why you'd want to) as you can by just welding in the old piece at the cuts.

That's pretty much what I figured. Thanks, Dr. O.

Heck, after this, the triumvirate will be complete! (s/c pulley, CAI, and exhaust mods). Took me long enough...

Close - those two were gifts. Honeymoons and first-time home purchases can eat up a good wad of cash, though.

The MyMini clamps are #1 quality SS type (not the cheapies that once clamped down deform the shape of your pipes). The Mymini pipe has the typical slits to help you get it on - and all you have to do is to ensure that you slide enough pipe as to ensure no exhaust leak via the slit. An impact tool is the perferred tool to tighten the clamps but can be done by hand. Remember to check exhaust tips before tightening the clamps. I suggest ruff measurements of tip location before installing pipe. If the tips are were they were originally, you have reduced your chances of any rattle problems. Don't hesitate to start car and listen.

PS - An alternative is to get Midas to install the pipe for no more than 35 bucks. 15 minutes.

Now Matt! Just a little one.

Imagine Helix coming out with a new CAI and announcing 80hp gain and forgetting to tell us that the car also had a Turbo kit on it.
