ALTA CAI, how loud is loud?

I have seen a video and read all the posts on the ALTA CAI but i was just wondering if the guys who had it ever find it tooooo loud. Im not going to mind the high pitch of the SC but on long drives does it ever get too high and give you a headache or anything? And how much does it drown out the radio?

Comment from coworker today during strong get out in traffic run.." this does not even sound like a car, does it have a tailhook for carrier landings? Can I drive?" LOL I love the scream combined with the Miltek, but there again I am 46 and half deaf anyway!

I have a Convertible, and even with the top down I don't think its that loud. I'm very happy with it, but you will definitely know you put it on, because it is louder than stock.

I think the question is, at cruising speed of around 70 on the freeway in 6th gear (2000rpm?) is it any louder than stock?

Seems like at the lower rpm you wouldn't really hear the SC screaming...

That's what I would worry about. If I'm revving it up past 4500 and going fast, i don't care if the sc drowns out the radio..

I have always liked the sound. It doesn't seem loud to me anymore at all. I hear it when I expect to, but not cruzing at highway speeds. Definatly not giving me any headaches.

But I've had it on for over 70,000 miles now, so I might just be used to it.

you have to be on the throttle to hear a difference.

cruising speeds is pretty much stock sounding.... with a whistle.

At 60 in sixth, its the exhaust drone you need to worry about Which can easily get on many peoples nerves.

My man! I used to be an audiophile (no really--I worked selling audio and loved it) but recently my hearing has gone south due to my rapid approach to the age of 50 years. I heard an MCS (stock) taking off some months ago and the driver was ON IT--woohoo that sounded like sex, only better. So nowdays I accelerate that SC as often as I can--just to let the other humans I share this planet with hear that wonderful, unique sound. Alta CAI and Milltek catback (soon to add a Madness header--2x woohoo!) Cant wait.
Still, I read posts where others hate the sound of superchargers, CAIs and exhausts, so to each his/her own, I suppose.
regards, phil

It makes the car sound as it should was what I thought the first time I got on the gas. It is nice and calm around town, upped the burble a little bit, felt a decent torque gain, I love it and its still quiet enought that I can be in 4th on the freeway and not hear it over the wind. It also lost the SO approval rating when I stomped on it and had the ringing phone open. I least I know not to do it with her in the MINI. Never been too loud, but I would like to do an exauhst to balance it out, even just a one ball would be enough.

I don't know why people think it's so loud...I personally don't have the alta, but have heard them and it's not bad at all. I removed the back piece from my CAI (the piece that borders the cowl vent) so its just as loud as the alta, and at first its a little loud, but you get used to it very, very fast and you don't even notice that its different. I've been meaning to drive a stock MCS for a while, just so I can see how much quieter the stock intake is! (I definitely forgot...)

I would say, as others have, at crusing speeds I don't even hear it - basically sounds stock. To be honest, I notice the sucking/wooshing sound when the throttle body opens more than the screaming of the SC, at lower RPM's...but, it is awesome when you run it up to the high-end of the RPM's and hear that SC sing...it's a rush and just makes you want to drive faster!

I don't find the increased SC sound annoying at all, what I don't like is the sucking/wooshing air sound you hear whenever you press the gas (basically regardless of how much you push it, unless it's wide open). Some will like this, but it gets 'somewhat' annoying to me at times.

IMHO, if you could have a CAI without the sucking/wooshing sound, but with all the screaming SC sound that the ALTA gives, it would be fantastic (not to mention in my MCS!). But until then, I'm overall happy with my ALTA CAI.

Ditto to all above. I drive about 3 -3500 mi / month. Normal cruising, don't really notice it unless I am on the Crackberry speakerphone. Pitch sems to mess with the mic. Funny to hear the response on a conf call when you pull out to pass someone though!

Loud? Loud is a 106" Revteck or S&S with straight pipes and you know it's loud because the accountant, lawer, doctor, investment banker or some other suit, has ear plugs.

The Alta is audible, some would say a little on the loud side but only when your foot is in in it. I like the sound.... it's even better if you hear it out side the car....

I have the helix, which may not be as loud as alta... dunno.
But i love the sound. No different if not on the throttle.
My wife borrowed the car for the 1st time since my mods, and she didn't notice a difference.
BTW... never told her about the mods.

I have thr ALTA CAI and the ALTA Sport Tuned Exhaust and it is a good balance. I have had some people say it is really loud, but they have luxiery cars. I recently added a 15% pulley and now it is loud ( love the sound ). I did have a high pitched whistle at 3000 rpm ( freeway cruising speeds ) but i did the VGS mod and it went away. The sound is weird at first so just give it some time. Most people like after awhile.

The MINI is an affordable luxury car, that happens to preform.

Thats why we have loud intakes, so we can't hear the mothers as we drive away!
