Drivetrain Back from HELIX.
Back from HELIX.
Just got back from Philly.
19% pulley, CAI, Hsport rear sway and SSK.
Seems like an entirely different car.
Very happy w/ the work done and Eric is one great guy to talk to.
Well worth the trip.

Planning the same, but maybe 17%
Can you report back about the gas mileage hit when you have some experience?

Headed for Helix next week. I'm still sitting on the fence as to what pulley to get for my daily driver.

I originally went 15%. Not even 2000 miles, and now I'm going through the costly process of going 19%. Do it right the first time.
That said, I also bought a Belt Tensioner Tool and a Tensioner Stop Bar in case the belt does snap off...

...Talk to Eric about it. He'll give you some background on what makes each different and what you should consider. I went with an Alta 15% and had Eric install the GIAC ECU flash. He also put in an Invidia exhaust.
He does great work and he's a good guy too. Knows a lot about mechanical stuff and can answer any questions you may have. His daily driver has his turbo kit in it!!

Maybe someone who really understands can briefly outline the whole adaptive computer thing. Just what does the computer track? How does it "adjust" beyond sensing/adjusting timing/mixture in real time?
Mileage on the Mini seems to fluxuate wildly. My recent experience is having taken a trip to the Catskills from the Philly area this weekend. It's about a 180 mile run. On the ride up, I burned 89 octane and limited my speed to 70 mph (true, 73 mph indicated) using the cruise control as much as possible. For the entire mixed road trip with no traffic the mpg came out to 29.8.
On the way back, I did the same, but with 93 octane gas. Mpg on the way home was 33.1. Variables? The way up was uphill (going North.) lol No, seriously, there is an altitude gain of 2000 feet for the trip up and a corresponding loss of 2000 feet on the way home.
Misc observations. Watching the instant mileage readout showed readings from 22 mpg to 55 mpg. Mileage is tremdously sensitive to grade.... but even then, things seem to fluxuate widely. Where one up-grade would produce a reading of 23 mpg, another that looked the same to me would show 41 - more than I was getting on flat stretches!
I eliminated all of the variables I had control of, a/c off, etc. Road surface seems also to play a small roll, but the inescapable conclusion from my trip is that the computer is constantly making substantial changes in timing and mixture. I don't know what it's sensing to make such large changes, but I can't help feel that a better program/sample rate might help.
Just my .02 as a newly minted mini owner.

. I get about 6 mpg on the track. If I get a moment, I'll explain adaptation. In short, it's happening all of the time under normal driving, but doesn't effect the driving experience that much...

Where did you purchase your Tensioner Stop Bar?

This morning I dropped the 7X (that's what her license will eventually be) off at Eric's. I'm trying to focus on work knowing that it won't be until 5:00 that I can get back there and pick her up. Here's what I'm having done and my reasoning:
15% Pulley combinded with an ECU map and CAI. I figure this is about the most bang for the buck that I can get right now. Going to the 17% or 19% pulley would be good, but the ECU map provides more benefit and with a smaller pulley I'd have to spring for injectors to do the remap. Eric estimates that my '05 MCS should be making about 195 hp (at the crank) when he's done his magic.
This car is a daily-driver and I take it to far off places, so I also don't want to ruin the highway fuel economy or the ability to use 89 octane in an emergency.
My initial impression of Eric is not only of a knowledgable Mini efficianado, but also that he's reliable and a good guy. I'm happy trusting my Mini to him and know that he'll stand behind his work.
Just my .02, as always your mileage may vary.....
More when I've had a chance to pick my baby up and put her through her paces.

Just checked my OBC, my mpgs have gone up by more than 2mpgs.
I reset the obc on my last fillup on wednesday. This is also my 1st recheck with the new tires. All driving is backroad... as usual. Very interesting.
