What type of changes would be made to help this? I have had the pre cat mod for a week now and it feels great. Not sure if that is because the pre cat was backed up and leaking or just from it being out of the way. I am about to upgrade to the tuner file, but maybe sooner is better than later.

Anyhoo, this set up feels great and sounds even better. I'm going to change a few other sections of the pipe. I think that will hold me over until head, cam and porting are done.

Ok, I've just got myself the stock header and I'm ready to do the MOD. *****, can you help me out? Where should I cut the pipe? Then take out all those things stuffed at the precat and weld it back?

Or, should I just remove the whole thing and replace with a plain pipe?

If you are usin the stock pipe, don't cut the pipe, cut about a half inch off the the precat heat shield then grind the precat weld off. The down pipe fits into the precat housing like the lid of a cookie jar.

Mate, can you copy the header pic in page two and indicate me where to grind, and which is the precat heat shield. Sorry I'm not really clear about this.. thank you.

Or maybe you have some pictures of your header?

Sorry I didn't get back to this sooner. I don't have any pics, but my sentence will be very obvious when you have the exhaust out. Locate the pre cat and grind away at the weld on the output side. The heat shield will get in your way and then you'll want to cut off that inch or so. This connection is not a butt joint, but like a lid on grandmas cookie jar. The weld on mine had almost no penetration. I suspect yours will too and I suggested this method to make it stronger and easier to gut the pre cat and put back together. If your unsure just cut where you feel comfortable and butt weld it together.

P.S. Even if I had pictures I would be to embarassed to post them as I had no choice but to LEARN how to weld real fast that day. My pipe broke at that joint the night before.

Has anyone else done this mod? Any side effects? Any cats to fail b/c of the heat?

Being that many have put the stock cat on other headers, I think we would have heard about cat failures due to the added heat. I just put the stock cat on a SS ceramic coated header, which should throw even more heat at it. It's only been a couple of weeks, but so far no issues....

You are indeed correct. I'll try to remember to take a photo. It actually worked-out for the better as I was wanting to Dremel it in that one area of the valence anyway. Don't need to now .

Cool, thanks for the info. I was looking to do this mod and the ceramic coating on the header (local and cheap).

My pre-cat melted ; had to remove in order to make the car drivable.
I could feel a power increase after removing the pre-cat + louder exhaust. Not sure if it has any ill effect on the motor.
I have an RMW tune is in the car too; should I re-tune ? Thanks!
