Drivetrain Went and Did It - Thanks Randy
Went and Did It - Thanks Randy
After 15 months of ownership I did my first Mod - a Webb Stainless Steel Intake and 15% Pulley.
I prepared myself for a nice - but not killer - performance increase. I am very pleasantly surprised. I've realized a significant increase in performance as a result of these mods - and it was a delight to spend time with Randy and everybody at the shop this morning.
So - for everybody who may be vacillating on a Pulley or Pulley/Intake set....Do It !
And to think I came this close to selling my MINI.....makes me shudder to think.

Thanks Steve! It was a pleasure having you and all of the other enthusiasts in the shop today!
We had a blast today at the first "Pulley Party" in Denver at my home town shop. We installed the first production run HDI Box on Steve's car, and did a very intense tech talk. We also enjoyed BEvERages and pizza, held a MINI5280 meeting, presented with a Webb Motorsports clock (!), and generally enjoyed MINI camaraderie (I spell checked that word).
I look forward to continuing our great local relationship with the club and Denver area MINI owners.
Post some pics if you have them!
Thanks,
Randy

Yeah - bug - indeed.
Back in the 486 chip days I bought a computer that had a "turbo" switch. Builder said "It accellerates the performance. Leave it off till you think the computer is slow, then turn it on and you'll be good for a few more months before you feel the need to replace it"
I'm afraid I just turned on the Turbo Switch.
The mod I see next will likely be that new concealed bumper hitch from MiniatureTrailers.com that looks sweet and would add the capacity the Convertible lacks on road trips.
Then maybe the exhaust sytem...and the chip...and the suspension...oh and ....
Peter
Who does, however, like the name Steve and could go by it if the need arose.

Great pictures of the internals of the air box. Looks like Randy has another hit product on his hands. The only question I have that looks like a problem from the pics is the stainless looks like it's up against the plastic reservoir on the master cylinder. Rubbing an issue??? How close is it? Otherwise looks like a great addition to the WMS line.

Steve (Peter),
I'd be happy to do some dyno tests on the car - but you can't really tune anything until you have a programmable ECU (like the Unichip).
Thanks guys! Larry - the HDI clears the master by a good margin, I can see how it looks deceiving in the pics though.
I have a turbo kit that is calling your name...
How'd the paint and body guy thing go?

Clearance..
Randy,
From the photos posted earlier today, it sure seems that an USTB (Upper Strut Tower Brace) won't fit with the HDIB (sounds better than HDI Box). So, folks who have an USTB will probably have to remove it if they want an HDIB. BTW, H-Sport is no longer manufacturing/selling their upper strut tower brace! Does that jibe with your sentiments about the functionality of USTB's?
You had mentioned that install time was about 15 minutes. How about as a DIY installation? For those of us with two left hands, would you please recommend an installer for the WMS HDIB in the metropolitan Los Angeles area? Thanks...

I also have come to that conclusion as it looks like it sits about an inch or two higher then the ECU. Most strut braces are very close to the ECU. I guess most people with an STB will be out of luck.

I think it all comes down to which part one feels is more "important".
Numbers soon - I have to get to the dyno, and this week is totally full. I have to finish Craig's JCW STX project car and build an Elise turbo with gauges, Accusump, and AP Racing brake kit. Both cars are due Friday
.
It isn't that critical by this week anyway, as the initial run has sold out, and it'll be another two weeks before more get here (but you can get on the list for the next run). I plan to have the numbers as soon as I return from Norfolk (this next weekend), and can get the unit on the dyno.
I believe the Dinan and other ECU friendly strut braces will work with the HDI Box. I'll do more testing as I encounter braces.
Hope that helps!
