This looks really useful but I don't think it will work with our cars. The MINI uses "computer area network" (CAN) protocol for the engine management system and our cars belong on the exclusion list that is on the link dominicminicoopers provided. We'll have to wait for a new version of the scanner that supports CAN.

 

It might be true about the MINI using CAN, but it's ALSO imported into the US, so it MUST
be OBD-II compatible, and that's what I sue to gather the data.

scantool.net has a kit for something like $65. You want the ELM-SCAN-ISO kit.

I recorded this data at about 3 samples-per-second with it.

 

The chip does work with our cars! I've been following the car chip story for a while now and one of the test vehicles is Sumi Das's(the host of fresh gear, also a show on the channel)Mini Cooper (manual 6spd, DS/DS)

 

i record about 30 samples per second with Pocketlogger, but its a litte bit pricier.

Some of the MINI2 threads say the CarChip works on the MINI. I have a CarChip and tomorrow I should have a MINI. I will groundtruth this issue and report back.
