Has anyone done this on the MCS? I expect quicker revs, but can I expect less sustained rpms between shifts? I think the VERY slow rpm drop is caused by a heavy flywheel. Is this fact, or ECU programming? It has to be one of the most annoying things on an otherwise very cool car. Is there any downside to the lightweight flywheel other than cost?

I believe that you also need a new clutch that can handle the torque surge when switching to a light flywheel.

I agree, the slow RPM drop is VERY annoying.

Sleepless is right, the flywheel is a dual mass with a solid center clutch - so the flywheel absorbs the driveline shock. If you replace the flywheel, the clutch plate must (or at least should) be changed to a spring centered clutch.

The ECU does leave the revs up between shifts for better emissions, but the 27 lb flywheel doesn't help things. The aftermarket flywheels out there are between 9 and 15 lbs, depending on which one you get.

The install is EXTREME to say the least. I'm waiting for the lift to be installed here at MINI Cooper Motorsport before I attempt that one. I would also like to do a liited slip for evaluation - but I'm waiting to see if other issues are resolved on that front first.

Hope that helps!

Randy

Sorry to get off topic, but do you know if anybody is actively looking to solve the LSD issues? While I'm not holding my breath for any transmission beef-up to handle the load in 1st/2nd gear in the near future, I would think that it would be easy enough to modify the LSD casing for better clearance on install... (I'm not going to pay $1K for something that doesn't fit)
