Flywheel & clutch

Something I have been wanting to do for a while now...and the dealer called & said the flywheel is toast. They said they wont charge me labor, but they would install whatever I send them.

so.................Collective minds.....Which flywheel does everyone recommend & with what clutch? I am mostly stock at the moment, but I am heading the route of the Alta Twurbo kit, was just waiting for the outcome of this dealer visit. If i remember correctly everyone likes the 14lb flywheels....which is what I will prolly go with....I am buying today to have drop shipped to the dealer, so advise would be soooooooooooooooooooooooo appreciated!

Also how much more work is it to install the LSD at this time??

TIA!

Im running the UUC Flywheel and Stage 3 Clutch, very nice setup. I am very happy with it. And as far as the LSD goes they have to take apart the tranny to put that in so you would have to ask the dealer how much they would charge.

I ran the UUC / Spec lw flywheel and stage 3 clutch as well. Ran good, loved it until the ring gear stripped on the flywheel. It was a bit nosiy. I then replaced it with the M7 flywheel and new spec stage 3 clutch. The slightly heavier M7 flywheel was quiteier and made it easier to drive. With the turbo kit you mentioned you would be going to the stage 3 clutch is a must if you do any *em* spirited driving and/or hard lauches. Might want to check into some new 300 hp axles as well.

When the Dealer put in my LSD it was about 10 hr job (roughly 1000.00) but as drk said check with your dealer and it also depends on the LSD (i had Phantom grip installed)

ok enough of my 2c worth, Enjoy the modding and as always

Have fun, Be safe and Keep MOTOV8N

I have the Spec Flywheel and the Spec stage three sprung clutch. Lots of clutch chatter. But other than that no problems.

I had the same proplem with my stock flywheel. I am just going to let them put stock back in, i hope it holds the extra power from the 15%. I had a lite weight flywheel on another car with a spec stage three clutch, good stuff, just harder to drive in traffic.

I have the Spec fw/stage 3 and Quaife. Noisy, grabby, but fun. I'm glad I went stage 3 because (drumroll, please) I pick up my newly Turbokompressore'd Mini in about 36 hours!

I have just had quaife LSD, fidenza flywheel and also uprated helix clutch.

its all good stuff, you do get a little rattle at idle but i am altering idle speed - increas 100rpm to stop the sound.

it revs so much smoother and alot quicker aswell. when garage took my flywheel out they said it was about to go, so i was lucky with that respect.

clutch is spot on too, doesnt feel to much different to standard but it can tak up to 270llbs of torque.

Do anyone know of a clutch that fits the MINI than can take more than 270ft-lbs?

Spec stage 2 takes 280 and they go up from there. Check out the specs at the bottom:

I just picked up the Mini with the spec flywheel & stg 3 clutch. Boy is it noisey. at slow speeds its a rattler, but highway speeds its fine. Is this normal of this combo? I dont mind, but I want to make sure the install was done right or if the clutch is defective. I have gotten defective clutches in the past, so I wouldnt put it past it!!!

Thanks!

Tol' ya. At low speeds there's kind of a grrrr from the fw. When engine braking you get a bbbbzzzzzzzhhhhhhhh from 3500 down to about 2000 rpm.
For a real treat, let the motor get nice and warm, put in neutral, set the ebrake and get out and listen: rattle...rattle...rattle.

BTW: I'm a McDevitt grad. GO Crusaders!

Yeah ok that is EXACTLY what it is doing.....Sweet....I just wanted to make sure so when I swing by the dealer tomorrow to pick up an exhaust manifold gasket, I can let em' know how good of a job they did!

McDevitt eh? My Mom & grandfather graduated from there!!

So how is the Twin charge doing for ya since the weather broke? I will be twin charged here as soon as I have a spare weekend to install it!

Its...fanfrickingtastic! Hit the sweetspot in rpm on an onramp, boost hits 20# and your seat hits you square in the back. You have to see it to believe.
