how much do you think you've spent on your car?? parts and labor? i've spent a little over 3 grand on my little car and it netted me 40hp increase at the wheels.. i have a fear of spending more money because it seems like you dont gain much more by throwing money at it.. i've always thought that HP didnt build up in a linear fashion on cars . has it ever? i'm actually considering buying a new 2006 M3 before BMW stops production.. the m3 is much more expensive than the mini but, it is it worth 20 grand more? (might have to find out)

if you have 40 more whp then I guess you are at about 185 whp...... I am at 200. I would guess your torque number is probably similar to mine. (what is odd is that many of the Mini people say mine is the fastest they have ever been in..... I know of no turbos in ATL..... My car is considerable faster than my GF's 330 and keeps up with just about everything I have ever tangled with..... I can't imagine what the turbo is like but I hope that someone will have one at the dragon for me to check out ... (Eric, will you be there) so for the extra 15 whp you can look up what all that suff costs plus the labor to put it in...... My car runs great.....and I love to drive it but this whole mod thing is a labor of love/hobby rather than an objective "best use of funds available." I know I have over $20K in aftermarket/labor but thre is a lot that is not engine related.....which I am beginning to believe is the best place to spend money after "PIES" (pulley, intake, exhaust, software)

the #s you guys are talking about are great for the $ and was what I too found to be true....

what most didn't realize and this is true for ALL cars is there is a point where you get X HP for a small amount....then...you gotta go big or go home...there's no two ways about it unless you use NAWS ....(that's for kwikshift)...LOL....

I totally agree with "go big or go home" ..... have you ever heard of "go ugly early" I think "go turbo early"

that being said,...... my Mini rocks...... it is still the most fun driving I have ever had in a "dd"

Well SpiderX, the good thing is that if/when you do go TC, your already upgraded engine internals will give you a more hp (and reliable hp) than a stock engine could. I completely agree that once you get past the PIES, there isn't much room for improvement without spending big $$$. That said, I'm still working on my PIES as my monetary situation (and father's love of warranty) has kept me from upgrading certain things.

I know this is how bad things get started, but I think I can answer this.

BMDOUBLEU has stated in another thread that it is whp.

201whp.. it was definately a surprize when i seen what my car produced for the money.. i may go to another dyno shop (mustang or something) and see what i'm making now. i havent added anything new, but, my car feels faster for some reason... (could be the miles. i'm at 20000miles in 7 months of use.. )

I used NO2 on my Subaru and the engine blew up after 3 tanks of that juice.

The dealer agreed to change the engine under warranty, what a lucky thing!

I'll never use that again.

This is why people have wrong conceptions of Nitrous. It is neither cheap or easy as you have attested from your blown Subi

It is simply another approach towards the same goal...getting more air/fuel into a fixed volume for combustion for a bigger bang. Technically, it is no different than SC or TC. Some people (no names) are basically eletist snobs and anything being used by "Billy Bob" is surely not good enough for the tea club...please get over it Proper application of nitrous is an art...with all due respect, please get to know the subject indepth before bashing it :impatient

as i wrote in a thread i started about tc and wot. i would love to go turbo, but i am nervous about running my car wot for 30 mins with the turbo. nitrous on the other hand can be shut off for this kind of driving, but when you want all out acceleration you turn on the bottle. i see guys shooting 75-100, i think a 40-50 shot on a mod car would give a nice boost fairly safe. correct me if i am wrong but i have been told a 10lb bottle is good for about 30-40 shots at 40hp. i want to see more history of tc cars on the track, and where the cut off on reliable power. tuls and maximus have logged alot of miles and i think they will be able to give the most accurate info on does and don'ts with tc. if the little 1.6 can handle the tc at 250whp for 30 mins wot, i will be tc by fall.

cheers

see this is the problem when things are not propperly tuned...or installed or just plain used...

TC, SC, or N20...if not used, installed or tuned properly...the tool gets blamed...I say blame the TOOL...LOL

I don't mean you persay DarkMiniCooperS...

Well if you are wanting to have a 40 hp boost controlled by a switch... Have you seen the two stage boost controllers? There are several on the market that are activated via a push button. You can run 15, 18, 20lbs or whatever you want on low boost and then smash the button and then you have high boost.

was thinking of a throttle position senser, pedel to the floor and 40 more hp, anything less and no juice. would be interested in the set up you are refering to though.

cheers
