RC engineering injectors.

Would 550cc RC engineering top feed injectors possibly work in the MCS? I have a set for free from a friend with a WRX that moved up to a dual stage setup.

They look almost exactally like these denso's (same part #) but they have a purple top.

what do you have done that you are going to use such large injectors?

you may encounter two problems that I have seen with RC 440's:
the injector diameter just above the sealing zone may interfere with the cutaway in the manifold. Requires machining about .090" diameter from the injector body in that area;
the injectors are longer and will require you raise the fuel rail about 1/4" with spacers. the pressure reg may then contact the bottom of the intercooler; requires some ingenious spacer work.

The thing is, I don't NEED these, they are just lying around, and after 16%, intake, header, exhaust, ecu...I thought they would be a nice addition. But after further discussion they would be to much, and my idle would have to be run to high to avoid a lumpy idle...so I'm going to try and trade them for another set of injectors. I do have another question though:...

What other stock injectors can we use? Would 3 series injectors work? Has anyone used any other cars injectors before?

Offtopic but, does the 400cc has the same problem?

nah, I have m7 400cc and haven't had any problems at all with them. Even before I had MTH to tune my ECU I didn't have any problems with the Injectors -- Johan

I just wanted to chime in, and in the same time show one of our 400cc injectors
for comparison. At a cursory glance the two injectors do look alike, but if you
look at both ends you will see that the design is completely different and you will have a big job a head of you to rebuild the fuel rail and asociated equipment.

As Johan said, our injectors has proven them selfs for the last 3 years and more then 250 sets sold world wide with no reported problems....

So looking at the M7 injector, it seems different than most others I've seen. Would this mean that we can't use injectors from other cars because the ones that fit our car are 'special' in some way?

I know in my old Civic I could use Supra, Prelude, and Integra injectors, as well as some of the first gen DSM's as well.

Yes they are special.........They are made for the MINI no other car on
the road as far as I can tell.

I have seen some injectors that other tuners have tried to re-sell as MINI compatible, it's not true as they "kind of" fits but at a closer look you will find
that the injector boss is wrong, not allowing a proper seat and will consequently
leak at high pressures.

yes you can use them all the twin cars for examlple do you just need the spacer as JLM said. There may be some that are different but I know there are some that do work.

Would anyone be able to post a picture of a stock MCS injector? I've started my search using a IPB from my dealer, but it's not a very clear picture of the injector...so far none of the (E46)BMW 4cyl. injectors fit, but I'm going to check as many injectors as possible to try and find a stock replacement.

I can't imagine that whoever makes the MCS injectors (Bosch, Denso) would make a Mini only model, although it is possible, it seems unlikey considering the commonality of most injectors.

The larger injectors fit fine they are a bit longer though so most come with spacers for the fuel rail. With 550s and bigger you will need to shave the IC brackets on the charge side a bit.

they will work just fine..I am running 550s...from RC...you may want an AFC to help control this....for Idle and correction...tuning is a must...and I do not mean a flash chip

How does one insure that one reworked injector has the exact flow rate of the next injector, alogside it ...? What tolerances are allowed ?

M7 400cc Injectors
$349 - SKU#10019

Developed specifically for high-horsepower (240hp+) applications, we developed these Fuel Injectors through weeks of rigorous testing to give you top performance with no compromises.

The OEM MINI fuel injectors are rated at 340cc's, pumping fuel at 80% duty cycle in a factory-tuned MINI Cooper S. Adding the power mods (nitrous, pulley, etc) will quickly take these injectors to and beyond 100% duty cycle, which results in poor performance and possible catastrophic engine failure due to a lean, detonation-prone mixture.

Well, I am by no means the designer or speaking for M7, BUT, I did install the M7 injectors... My bud and I measured the holes/jets used for spraying and inspected them with a handheld lens [no kidding!]. The holes all seem to be exactly the same, in the same configuration- which reiterates just what M7 claims.

The way that fuel injectors work is by opening up a valve of sorts inside the body of the injector [upstream of the holes for spraying] a given amount for a given electrical pulse, which lets fuel flow. The M7 ones, it seems, replace that valve apparatus [again, upstream of the holes used for atomization of fuel], and they retain the stock spraying pattern/configuration.

Like I said, we inspected them really well and compared them directly to my stock parts.
