Another interesting find; the specs on Deka's site claim the ETX20L has 270 cca and the smaller ETX18L has 300 cca. Could someone please remind me what the cca are for the oem battery and the minimum you should have for the MCS?

I must of missed it here somewhere...

How much does the stock MCS battery weigh???

If we are replacing the stocker with an 11 lb'r... Whats the weight savings, and is it noticable to the performance of the car???

I do track and often think I can actually feel and notice the mods I am doing to my car... Will this mod have me hootin' around the twisties??

Thanks for the info, I am stoked on this.

Yes, this is to much for the smaller battery. While BMW did seperate the circuitry required to run the car from the accesories I thiink yuo will find that there is not oomph in the smaller battery to keep up with the power demands of multiple amps. Caps would need to be installed to prevent damaging the amps and clipping the system.

I've had the Braille that I bought from Helix for almost two years and over 35,000 miles and nary a problem.

However I do not have the alarm system.

If I remember correctly the savings was about 14 lbs. However it's in an odd place. The stock battery is out back and down low. Some feel that the weight savings is not worth the cost and that since the Mini is already so light in the rear it changes to the F/R weight balance to much making the rear a tad bit more willing to swap ends with the front. I found that moving the rear sway bar adjustment from soft to medium on my H-sport 19 mm bar that F/R swapability was negated when using the Braille battery.

Also if possible when you mount the battery place it as far to the passenger side rear as possible. That helps ever so slightly with corner balancing.

I'd have to agree... I wouldn't recommend this swap strictly for the weight-reduction that it affords. That said, I'd do it again simply because it was not the primary driving force behind my decision to do so. I wanted the battery box gone for a custom straight exhaust, and a smaller battery, relocated, was the answer...

I believe my notes have the stocker at 35 lbs, so a 24 pound delta.

Thanks for the feedback!

Yes I do think that I appreciate the little extra weight that is out back and down low, around high speed off camber turns.

Around Rainey at Laguna I am amazed that the rear sticks at all! I am keeping my Boat anchor until I do a straight thru exhaust.

The Helix Kit sure looks cool though... If I had it, I would take the carpeted piece off the top of the area and just run it open. Bling Bling...

Thanks, Jasun
